    17.36to20.83Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Cleans and sanitizes kennels, cages and related areas, including cleaning food/water bowls and litter pansPerforms minor repairs and routine maintenance of kennels and cagesPrepares and dispenses appropriate amounts of food and water to animals; transports, unloads, and stores food suppliesPerforms routine observations of animals and their cages to monitor food consumption, behavior, obvious signs of illness, and condition of the animals for health and safety purposesAdministers vaccinations, dewormers, flea treatment prevention and medications; scans all animals for microchipsOversees kennel staff in the absence of the Shelter Operations/Program CoordinatorAssists members of the public searching for lost animals or seeking to adopt animals in person and/or via telephoneCleans animal waste and fluids multiple times throughout shiftAssists with intake of animals when neededWalks dogs, on leashes, to and from outside exercise areasWashes and dries towels, toys, bedding, etc.

    Ensures facility meets or exceeds division expectations regarding cleanliness and safety

    Alerts direct supervisor when inventory levels are lowHelps maintain cleanliness of the property by picking up and disposing of trash and debris; keeps aisles, drains, carts, shelves, sinks, floors and counters sanitary and free of clutter/debris; empties and sanitizes trash cans and receptaclesOversees cleaning supply inventory, dog or cat supply inventory, and that animal dietary needs are met as assignedFosters good animal control community relations and superior customer service among residents and visitors to the shelterEnsures daily animal care tasks are completed in the absence of the direct supervisorDevelops and maintains current knowledge of the County Emergency Management Plan and functions as essential personnel in the event of a declared disasterPerforms other duties as assignedMinimum Requirements:

    High School Diploma or GED EquivalentThree years' experience in animal services, animal control, veterinary or other animal-related positionsCertified Euthanasia Technician (Preferred; Must attain within one year of hire)

    Valid Florida driver's license with clean driving record

    The position regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds, frequently lifts and/or moves up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to pounds.

    The person in this position needs to be able to frequently move about to ensure proper care of animals and to access files, personnel, office machinery, etc.

    Constantly positions self to inspect and assess animals for wellness and temperament.

    Must be able to inspect, assess and perceive relevant animal health and care information, including condition and disposition toConstantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

    Frequently communicates with supervisors, other staff, including medical staff, and the public regarding care of animals. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
    The worker is subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Indoor exposure may include dust, dander and fur. External exposure may include inclement weather, extreme temperatures, excessive humidity, and pollution. Position risks exposure to bites, scratches, animal waste and unpleasant odors.
    The noise level is typically moderate, but may risk exposure to loud and unpleasant noises.
