  • DESCRIPTION: The missionaries of the Gift of Mary GIFT (Giving, Integrating, Forming, Testing) Program spend their mission year in prayer and service to the poor within the context of the Gift of Mary Women's Shelter, an outreach for homeless women in downtown Pittsburgh specifically built to help those in emergency situations due to domestic violence and human trafficking.

    Our shelter is staffed with a committed team that works to provide guests with "next steps", but while our guests are staying with us, our missionaries serve in a ministry of presence: meeting women face to face, providing them with a listening ear, Bible studies, prayer, and a good community. Missionaries also help with the day-to-day needs of running our outreach programs to the poor.

    The life of GIFT Missionaries is structured with the intention of creating an atmosphere of prayer, community life, and discernment. The GIFT Program is modeled after Mary's own Fiat, and missionaries spend the year listening to God's voice while serving the poor, with the goal of saying "yes" to God in whatever He might be asking of them for their lives.

    Room and Board is provided for Missionaries.

    Daily Morning & Evening Prayer
    Weekly Formation Meetings
    Regular Spiritual Direction
    Community nights with mission team

    ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

    Commitment to the Catholic faith and willingness to grow in one's prayer life.
    Desire to work with the poor
    Good interpersonal skills
    Ability to work effectively in a team environment
    This position is only open to women, ages 20-29
