Occupational Summary
Coordinate the activities of an assigned department or specialty area within the University Stores, keeping area neat, well-stocked and creatively merchandised; provide customer services.
Work Performed
Keep assigned department stocked with merchandise; order stock merchandise from the University Store's stockroom, Central Warehouse and/or local vendors in sufficient quantity to meet customer demand; assist in ordering new and sale merchandise based on market trends. research, customer preferences and favorable vendor terms as required.
Receive deliveries and process mail orders according to procedures; verify quantities and items against packing slips, invoices and purchase orders; ensure merchandise received is in good condition. Price merchandise with correct price and department code; organize merchandise on sales floor in a systematic, attractive and easily accessible manner.
Perform inventories as scheduled; take counts of sale, reduced, damaged and discounted merchandise; note markdown of merchandise and dispose of merchandise according to procedures.
Assist customers in the selection of products and recommend additional purchases; answer customer calls and inquiries and resolve customer complaints; monitor for shoplifting and take appropriate actions as needed in accordance with store policy.
Operate point-of-sale cash register as needed, processing cash and non-cash transactions.
Monitor work of lower level and student employees; notify supervisor of problems that cannot be resolved.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles to maintain proper inventory counts and to handle sales transactions, generally acquired through a high school education.
Experience
Work generally requires 6 months of retail store experience including cash register operation experience.
