  • Position Description: The Director of Business Development is a full-time position that reports to the Vice President of Business Development. This position is responsible for managing company expansion and relocation projects from beginning to end. That includes compiling the needed information for companies to make informed decisions and highlighting Illinois competitive advantages, with the end goal of the company choosing Illinois to invest and create jobs.

    Intersect Illinois is the states nonpro?t economic development organization that facilitates the attraction of new businesses and markets the state to domestic and global business leaders.

    Opportunity:
    Intersect Illinois is hiring a Business Development Director, responsible for managing a pipeline of projects considering Illinois for their location. This position will work directly with clients, managing projects with the highest quality and efficiency from prospect to closing. The Director of Business Development reports to the Vice President of Business Development.

    Responsibilities:
    Manage projects with the goal locating the company in Illinois
    Showcase Illinois assets, tailoring information specifically to prospective clients throughout various industries
    Create and deliver engaging pitches and presentations that differentiate Illinois
    Coordinate site visits
    Identify new projects from corporate end users (direct opportunities)
    Develop relationships with local communities, state partners, utilities, and other partners
    Maintain strong relationships with clients
    Perform specials projects and duties as assigned
    State and Domestic travel required

    Required Knowledge/Experience:
    Minimum 7 years of experience in proven business development (sales) and/or economic development experience with three years of experience managing projects
    Minimum 2 years of experience with complex sales and selling to senior management
    Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines
    Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with various levels of management, staff, and clients
    Experience identifying potential clients, cultivating strong relationships with new clients, while maintaining existing client relationships
    Understanding of real estate and site development
    Knowledge in utilities and transportation infrastructure
    Experience with global location and site benchmarking, talent market benchmarking and evaluations, location operating conditions screening, country comparative risk comparisons, variable operating cost modeling and business case development
    Ability to work in a team environment, while also independently
    Strong business connections
    Excellent communications skills, both externally and internally
    Bachelors in business administration or related field

    Preferred Knowledge/Experience: Knowledge of Illinois communities and economic strengths
    Masters degree in Business Management or Business Administration and/or Project Management Certificate
    Strong knowledge on one or several of our target industries

    Business Development Department:
    The Business Development team at Intersect Illinois is responsible for bringing business opportunities to the state and managing the pipeline of projects to completion.

    Department goals include:
    Promote Illinois assets and provide the most useful information to prospective companies
    Establish Intersect Illinois as a primary point of contact by developing strong relationships with corporate end users, brokers, local EDOs, utilities and other strategic industry partners
    Manage relationships and communications with collaborating partners for a smooth/efficient site selection process
