Austin Public Schools is looking to hire a Financial Support Specialist
CLASS SUMMARY: This is a stand-alone classification. Incumbents are responsible for providing confidential administrative support activities requiring thorough knowledge and understanding of rules, regulations and policies that affect the entire District.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
1. Compiles and analyzes District information such as bid proposals, employee salaries, contract negotiations, and other data deemed confidential and develops reports as requested.
2. Processes, calculates, enters, edits and monitors expenditures.
3. Maintains daily cash journal, completes cash transfers, monitors cash flow and completes bank reconciliations.
4. Performs general ledger adjustments and analyzes ledgers and supporting documents to ensure the accuracy and integrity of various financial reports.
5. Prepares various reports including generation and use of grant funds, carry over funds, resale accounts and reimbursement reporting.
6. Performs customer relations duties to include addressing budget inquiries, clarification and calculations and providing direction for external reporting and auditing of internal data.
7. Assists with year-end audit procedures including fund balance reconciliation, calculation of receivables and revenue verification.
8. Generates and codes purchase orders, vouchers and billings for supplies, medical assistance, vendors and public and private resources.
9. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Training and Experience (positions in this class typically require):
Associates Degree in accounting and two years of increasingly responsible experience related to the areas of assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

- Microsoft Excel;
- Applicable rules, regulations and ordinances;
- Office practices, procedures and equipment;
- Principles and practices of bookkeeping.

Skill in:
- Performing standard financial analysis;
- Performing basic statistical analysis;
- Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of budgets;
- Preparing various reports;
- Utilizing computer hardware and software applications;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
