Applications Programming Manager manages teams and implements policies and procedures related to the design, analysis, testing, coding, and implementation of applications. May manage outsourcing budgets, vendors, or off-shore resources. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Applications Programming Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Program Coordinator - Facilities and Programming

  • The Program Coordinator oversees the planning, development, implementation, coordination, promotion, and evaluation of recreation programs and facilities. This individual performs professional work primarily in the administration office. Recreation Supervisors also work at recreation centers, events, and other locations as necessary. Additional responsibilities include hiring, training and supervising staff; establishing and monitoring classes in various activities; completing paperwork and interacting with the general public.
    Education Required: Graduation from an accredited 4-year college or university

    Area of Study (major) Required: Recreation Management and Programming, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Education, Sports Management, Business Administration or related field

    Certification(s) Required:
    First Aid & CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire

    License(s) Required: Valid LA driver’s license

    Years Relevant Work Experience: Minimum 3 years supervisory and recreation programming experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of municipal recreation management principles and procedures
    • Ability to assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate recreation programs such as instructional/skilled classes/courses/recitals; afterschool programs; summer camp programs
    • Recreation facility management skills and experience in supervising staff and operating facilities
    • Effective Problem-solving skills: ability to work independently; demonstrate sound judgment
    • Ability to effectively prioritize work and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Ability to develop and maintain a budget, complete reports such as financial, payroll, and activity reports according to established BREC financial procedures
    • Knowledge of and skill in the use of various software applications such as Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite,
    • Strong leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and the public, as well as to relate to others in a positive manner
    • Ability to supervise and work in a team environment
    • Public relations skills including public speaking and presentation abilities
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, staff, volunteers, patrons, BREC officials, community interest groups, and the general public.
    Essential Functions and Duties:
    • Assesses and evaluates the recreational needs of the community
    • Supervises: hires, counsels, discipline, evaluate employee performance, and trains staff on job functions and promotes a team environment including instructors, summer camp staff and volunteers
    • Trains staff, 30 to 50 members at peak time, in recreation programming, supervisory skills, safety and security, and customer service
    • Prepares unit budget, reviews and monitors revenues and expenditures and track payments; seeks product quotes and prepares purchase orders; prepares financial reports; develops and monitors performance measures, statistics, program service evaluations, marketing efforts and other daily administrative functions
    • Effectively communicates BREC policy and procedures to staff as changes occur
    • Plans, develops, organizes, coordinates, promotes, and directs well-balanced recreation programs
    • Selects placement of programs and events throughout East Baton Rouge Parish
    • Ensure maintenance of supplies, equipment, and facility
    • Communicates regularly with community partners, civic groups and business organizations throughout East Baton Rouge Parish
    • Ensures coordination of program/facility needs with other BREC departments
    • Handles staff/participant complaints following standardized procedures
    • Attend and participate in Department meetings and provide information to fellow staff
    • Gain sponsorships for programs and events. Work with community partners to maintain partnerships.
    • Coordinate all activities pertaining to holiday and summer camps, afterschool programming, and general recreation programs
     
     Secondary Job Duties:
    • Assists other BREC departments in clarification and dissemination of information to staff and public.
    • Assumes duties in absence of supervisor-of-record to respond to immediate concerns to ensure efficiency and prompt service to employees and the public.
    • Assists with community events and other BREC, programs and services.
