Police Officer

  • Duties

    • Observe, or respond to reports of, crimes ranging from simple rules violations to felonies and capital crimes.
    • Pursue and apprehend persons fleeing a crime scene or attempting to resist arrest.
    • Make arrests and perform booking procedures under close supervision until all training requirements have met.
    • Perform protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts.
    • Perform access control duties by applying local instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Pre-Planned Responses (PPR), Random Antiterrorism Measure (RAM), and Force Protection (FP) Conditions to control vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
    • Conduct investigative stops, questions, detains, and issues traffic citations as required under supervision.
    • Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer under supervision.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Security Clearance
    • Must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid
    • Meet requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56
    • Must pass the Department of the Army (DA) Civilian Police Academy or receive a DA approved waiver of initial training for completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Mixed Basic Police training program within one y
    • Must carry assigned duty weapon; have the capability of rationally applying the continuum of force; and use deadly force if necessary
    • TDY up to 5% may be required
    • Must possess and maintain a valid state Motor Vehicle License and obtain and maintain local government driver's license
    • Position requires employee to wear uniform and perform daily duties while wearing a uniform and/or protective clothing to include facial/ head worn protective masks, soft body armor where assigned, and duty belt with police equipment
    • Position requires working rotating shifts, to include weekends and holidays, and may be required to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
    • The Lautenberg Act is applicable for this position. Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check
    • Required to perform and pass semi-annual qualification testing with firearms (pistol, rifle, shotgun, etc), and observe applicable safety precautions, as required.
    • Must pass pre-screening physical agility test requirements and test every 12 months commensurate with the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with AR 190-56
    • This is a Drug Testing Position (DTP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing as a condition of employment. The incumbent shall be subject to periodic and random urinalysis drug testing as required by AR 600-85

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.     Qualification requirement for the GS-06:
    Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes maintaining order and protecting life and property; responding to emergency/non-emergency calls, complaints, or other calls during shift; and completing police reports or forms; or providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments. Must have knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

    Qualification requirement for the GS-07:
    Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing methods and procedures used to investigate crimes, collect and secure evidence, secure the crime scene and take charge of a crime or accident scene and to restrict access to those persons required on the scene; or providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; must have knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
