Job Summary
The Department of Art at Columbus State University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Art History. We desire a candidate who will develop new approaches to sculptural instruction and expand the integration of spatial work within a diverse department. The successful candidate will be a passionate teacher and artist within a broad range of practices such as fabrication, modeling, installation, drawing, and mixed media.
Responsibilities
We seek a colleague to join our Art History faculty to teach: Art Appreciation, introductory and upperlevel Art History survey courses, as well as related courses within their area of expertise. The standard teaching load is 5 courses per semester. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience teaching non-western art, especially the art of Africa and African Diaspora. We offer opportunities to teach in our study abroad programs and to pursue professional development. The successful candidate will demonstrate and maintain a record of excellence and ongoing development in teaching; and will work with the chair and other faculty on departmental activities.
Required Qualifications
An MA in Art History is required; Ph.D. or ABD preferred. Candidate should demonstrate ability in teaching all levels of art history. Three years of successful teaching and related professional experience are preferred, and this may include graduate teaching assistantships. Additionally, a successful candidate will be able to support the continued development of the Art History degree program as part of a comprehensive department. Candidate should possess strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative department that regularly hosts programs such as the All-State Art Symposium, the National Art Honors Society State Conference, a visiting artist and scholars residency program (VASRP), and contemporary, exhibitions.
