Art Director directs and develops the creative design and execution of visual communications to meet an organization's marketing or advertising objectives. Provides internal clients with design standards, tools, and guidance on communicating corporate image, branding, and identity. Being an Art Director leads the design and production operations of all visual elements including publications, infographics, and social content, that are deployed across digital, interactive and print. Stays current on latest trends. Additionally, Art Director develops a network of vendors, freelance artists, and designers to utilize for project support. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in art, graphic design or equivalent. Typically reports to top management. The Art Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be an Art Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     POSITION TITLE:                               DSP Art Instructor

    DIVISION:                                            Day Services

    SUPERVISOR:                                     Education and Enrichment Coordinator

    CLASSIFICATION:                              Non-Exempt

    STATUS:                                               Full Time 

                                                                                                                                                              

    PRIMARY FUNCTION:

    Coordinate and develop art instruction and curriculum to ensure a meaningful day for all persons served. Implement instruction and opportunities for learning for adults with disabilities in an integrated classroom setting. Facilitate and provide direct care to persons served in reaching his or her maximum potential.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Plan and conduct a variety of activities that are designed to meet the needs of assigned adult and promote appropriate developmental age progress in language, self-help, fine and gross motor, social/emotional skills, and cognitive skills. Plan for and meet the needs of individual clients while remaining responsive and aware of group needs.
    • Create and implement art based activities, lesson plans, and lead art classes.
    • Demonstrate multiple art techniques including ceramics, painting, and teach staff and persons served.
    • Provide direct care support to persons served in day service setting.
    • Follow daily routine and schedule while remaining flexible to individual factors that may alter the routine.
    • Help create a warm and accepting environment & atmosphere for adults, parents, families, volunteers, community representatives, and staff.
    • Assist and train staff in effective engagement techniques to best meet the needs of all persons served and staff.
    • Communicate and work with other staff to coordinate program components and goals for each adult.
    • Coordinate and develop curriculum to ensure a meaningful day for all persons served.  Create curriculum with various modifications to meet difference skill levels of the people we serve.   Develop creative ways to engage the persons served.  
    • Research and recommend teaching techniques to reach, engage, and support persons served. 
    • Assess the effectiveness of the curriculum and modify the curriculum as needed. 
    • Participate in professional organizations that will enhance the Curriculum Program. 
    • Maintain program curriculum at accreditation levels and meet standards of the following: Board of Health, CARF, Medicaid, BDDS, BQIS, etc.
    • Coordinate, supervise, create and evaluate the instructional activities that are provided to persons served.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of short and long-range programming goals including program evaluation system.  Review and update systems as needed.
    • Maintain the confidentiality of persons served.
    • Assist with maintaining the kiln
    • Assist with all aspects of the gift stores.
    • Order all products for gift stores based on sales schedule.
    • Oversee all activities for monthly First Friday events.
    • Work in gift stores as scheduled, and maintain availability to assist with special events.

     

    OTHER FUNCTIONS:

    • Promote agency philosophies, generate team spirit, create and maintain an environment that fosters employee satisfaction, maximized productivity and profitability.
    • Must be capable of doing such tasks as filing, reaching, handling, talking, listening, climbing stairs daily and operating normal office equipment.
    • Maintain an active level in associations related to social services.

     

    ENVIRONMENT:

    • Occasional high noise levels may require the use of hearing protection.
    • Occasional exposure to fumes, oils, paints, and other industrial odors.
    • Potential exposure to bodily fluids, pests, contagious pathogens, and/or bed bugs.
    • Must be able to climb stairs on an occasional basis to access work areas, which are currently without elevator access.

     

    PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:

    • Become active in an organization of related professionals.
    • Attend related training as authorized or required.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High School diploma or GED preferred. 
    • Proficiency in using computer for word processing, Microsoft Word, and Excel required.
    • Must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral, and strong teamwork skills. 
    • Must have the ability to successfully work in both independent and group settings.  Must be capable of communicating effectively during a crisis situation.
    • Must be capable of attending meetings locally, out of town and at the state level.
    • Maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license, insurance on personal vehicle (minimum of PLPD with Medical liability coverage), and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance carrier.
    • Must possess and maintain reliable transportation that meets state requirements for transporting persons served.
    • Must possess and maintain a clear criminal record as required by Medicaid Waiver regulations.
    • Must possess or be able to obtain CPR and first aid certification annually.
    • Must possess or be able to obtain CPI certification annually and perform as necessary.
    • Dress appropriately as defined by department dress code.
