    Position Overview

    Reporting to the Deputy Director of External Affairs, the Director of Revenue Projects leads and oversees the Revenue Projects Department including Revenue Programs and Rental Venue Sales. This position provides team leadership, management, and oversight for the department – defining long-term goals, strategy, budgets, and operations. Projects in this portfolio include events focused on attendance, earned revenue, and individual and corporate underwriting.


    The role requires advanced understanding in the areas of team leadership, sales, relationship management, budget planning, communication, and project management. The Director works closely with teams to develop and implement new strategies and initiatives, with a particular focus on tapping or creating new revenue streams, developing and moving strategic relationships forward, and engaging new visitors and possible sponsors. This position includes direct supervisory responsibility for the Revenue Programs Producer and Venue Sales Manager and indirect supervision of all department staff.


    Essential Responsibilities

    Leadership, Strategy & Management

    • Lead and direct the Revenue Projects Department including Revenue Programs and Venue Sales teams.
    • Serve as a member of the Museum leadership team, collaborating across departments to direct and support institutional goals through the generation of earned revenue, attendance, and sponsorship.
    • Develop overall departmental strategy and oversee the development of department, team, and individual project budgets.   
    • Work closely with leadership team to identify key audience demographics and motivations for visitation, especially related to earned revenue opportunities through programming, facility rentals, and more.
    • Research and identify trends in the field, bringing forward new projects and initiatives appropriate to our audience that will result in increased earned revenue and funding opportunities. 

    Project Management

    • Manage a portfolio of both long- and short-term projects with the primary goal of driving tourist, first-time, and repeat attendance.
    • Primary departmental projects will include: Festival, Art in Bloom, Lager Land, Films, MIX, and various short-term projects focused on social celebration. Projects will be planned and implemented with support from cross-departmental teams that will provide support in content development, event and program execution, and revenue generation. 

    Relationship Management, Stewardship & Communications

    • Manage a portfolio of approximately 20 in-kind sponsors relating to Revenue Projects (focused on $25,000 and under). Work with Development team to create compelling sponsorship opportunities and strategies for individual, corporate, and in-kind support relating to projects.
    • Work closely with the Communications Team to create effective marketing and promotional strategy and supporting collateral to increase and diversify revenue projects, facility rental sales, sponsorship, and engagement. 
    • Oversee stewardship efforts relating to funders including effective engagement, recognition, and reports that explain the impact of contributions.
    • Facilitate the building of strong relationships amongst team members, colleagues, and volunteers across the institution, providing staff trainings and feedback, communicating proactively, and maintaining a professional demeanor and positive attitude.

    Research & Analysis

    • Assist other departments with developing business models and budget forecasts with a goal of determining ROI.
    • Conduct thorough research of in-market competing events and out-of- market aspirational Museum events, programs, and other earned revenue initiatives.

    Requirements

    Equivalent Education/Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in related area, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required
    • Minimum five years of successful experience in event, production, or program planning required
    • Minimum three years experience in developing and executing revenue-generating events preferred

    Knowledge/Skill/Ability

    • Proven skill and proficiency in the development and implementation of large special events
    • Advanced project and budget management skills; Ability to develop complex business plans
    • Ability to effectively communicate with internal project leaders while meeting simultaneous department deadlines; aptitude to solve problems
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport, as well as build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products required

    Competitive Salary & Benefits
