Art Manager manages the creative design and execution of visual communications to meet an organization's marketing or advertising objectives. Provides internal clients with design standards, tools, and guidance on communicating corporate image, branding, and identity. Being an Art Manager oversees the design and production operations of all visual elements including publications, infographics, and social content, that are deployed across digital, interactive and print. Monitors projects and timelines. Additionally, Art Manager stays current on latest trends. Develops and manages a network of vendors, freelance artists, and designers to utilize for project support. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in art, graphic design or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Art Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be an Art Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.       Full Time Position: Juneau Douglas High School(.8 FTE), Yaakoosge Daakahidi Alternative High School (.2 FTE)

      Position Summary:
      The successful individual will work with students to help them learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. The individual will promote the kind of instruction and learning environment that will enable each student in the district to master the skills appropriate to age, grade level and individual capacity. This position is responsible for teaching high school Tlingit language scope and sequence, developing teaching lessons, and teaching Tlingit language with an emphasis on proper protocols and effective strategies for conveying traditional language and culture. Practice and skills in traditional culture, such as songs, drumming, and dancing are desirable.

      MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
      • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education preferred.
      • Valid Alaska teaching certificate (Type A Professional or Type M Specialist) or eligibility to receive a valid Alaska certificate.
      • Knowledge of many teaching strategies for diverse students.
      • Experience speaking and teaching Tlingit language.
      • Fluent Tlingit speaker
      • Experience teaching Northwest Coast Art through a variety of mediums.
      • Experience teaching using multi-sensory or promising practices in second language learning
      • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.       • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
      • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
      • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
      • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
      • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides appropriate to the interest, academic and maturity level of pupils; maintains required inventory records.
      • Adapts curriculum to provide individual, small-group or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student.
      • Creates and maintains a learning environment in which all students are actively engaged and contributing members; encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas.
      • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
      • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
      • Understands how students learn and develop, and applies that knowledge in the teaching practice in the classroom.
      • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
      • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
      • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required to do so under reasonable terms.
      • Administers or monitors group tests.
      • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
      • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
      • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
      • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
      • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and in self-selected professional growth activities.
