Provides internal clients with design standards, tools, and guidance on communicating corporate image, branding, and identity.     Manager of Youth Programs, Full-time (Non-Exempt)

    POSITION PURPOSE:

    As a part of the Learning and Engagement Department, the Manager of Youth Programs is responsible for developing and managing programs that engage diverse family and youth visitors to make the DAM an exemplary family friendly institution. The manager will oversee the museum’s summer camp program and youth art showcase program. This individual will contribute to the advancement of the Museum’s efforts to welcome youth and family visitors of all ages, cultural background and abilities to the museum and create opportunities for creative expression and connection. A successful applicant will be passionate about fostering youth creativity and empowerment.

    This position reports to the Senior Manager of Family Programs.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Oversee DAM’s 10-week summer camp program for ages 5-14.
      • Envision camp offerings that contribute to the creativity and imagination of the young people who participate.
      • Identify and contract teaching artists and seasonal educators.
      • Supervise contract teaching artist cohort and seasonal educators including hiring, training, scheduling.
      • Collaborate with teaching artists to develop curriculum and content for classes.
      • Work with Marketing team to create promotion strategy for members and build audience.
      • Develop and oversee scholarship strategy and resulting partnerships.
      • Work with Sr Manager to create strategy to grow the program and forecast revenue.
      • Must be onsite for duration of camps or make plans for coverage.
    • Oversee Youth art showcase Program, a rotating community youth showcase on view in DAM’s Wonderscape.
      • Oversee program elements and logistics to implement youth art showcases and receptions.
      • Nurture and manage community partnerships with schools and organizations that partner with DAM on the showcase program.
      • Develop a yearly showcase calendar.
      • Develop systems for installation and layout of spotlight.
      • Act as primary point person and support for all logistics including install and deinstall of showcases.
      • Work with Sr Manager, Manager of School Programs, and Teaching Resources to envision future of program and identify potential partner organizations and projects for the space.
      • Coordinate all related community receptions and celebrations.
      • Contribute to the Communications and Marketing strategies to build awareness and amplify impact.
    • Work with Sr. Manager to implement live programs, including supporting Foxy and Shmoxy: Art Detectives when needed, planning and implementing Create Playdate, and supporting in the development, evaluation, and implementation of future early childhood programming.
    • Maintain exceptional quality and effectiveness of programs and foster a culture of discovery, creativity, and personal connection to art and culture:
      • Promote equity of opportunity with art & creative experiences by centering diverse and historically under-represented voices.
      • Work with Sr. Manager to contribute to budget projections and tracking.
      • Keep, maintain, and prepare data.
      • Support on-going understanding of best practices as it relates to working in community among the broader Learning & Engagement staff.
      • Manage intern team when needed, including hiring, scheduling, and training.
      • Contribute to family collateral pieces.
      • Interface with Events, Security and Facilities, Visitor Services, Communications, and Exhibition departments to ensure implementation of family programs.
      • Support formal and informal evaluation studies of current and future programs to gather feedback from artists, visitors, and community.
      • Work collaboratively across the Learning and Engagement department to deliver superior visitor experiences.
      • Represent Youth and Community programs at frontline meetings when needed.

    Qualifications


    QUALIFICIATIONS/KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Highly organized, independent, thoughtful, and self-reliant.
    • Effective communicator with colleagues and visitors.
    • Strong communication and writing skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively.
    • Spanish speaking preferred.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
    • Strong customer service skills.
    • Ability to move 50 pounds, on occasion.
    • Experience in designing programming for youth and intergenerational visitors.
    • Key relationships with a diverse group of Colorado based teachers, teaching artists and creative community or experience building and sustaining a network of artists and community organizations.
    • Experience working with a variety of audiences, including adults and families.
    • Experience supervising staff, interns, and volunteers.
    • Ability to work in collaboration with stakeholders, internally and externally.
    • Ability to work with a variety of people on simultaneous projects.
    • Ability to solve problems as they arise and to take initiative.
    • Facilitation skills for small and large groups.
    • Knowledge and/or experience with informal learning settings.

     

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor of Arts, or comparable degree, required. Relevant professional experience can be substituted for educational requirements.
    • Minimum of 5-years of experience working in areas of program development including overseeing a complex suite of programs or other comparable projects required.
    • Experience with evaluation required.

     

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

    • Variable work schedule (weekend & evening work).

     

    The hiring salary for the position is $55,000-$63,000 based on experience. A $0.50 language differential is available for hours worked for candidates who have Spanish speaking proficiency.
