Summary:
Accountable for the effective and efficient administration, allocation and utilization of resources for all systems throughout the BNH EVS Department. Responsible for cost control, day to day operation, resource allocation, staffing, cleanliness, adherence to P&P and all other BH standards for their assigned Hospitality business. Areas under EVS include but are not limited to Patient Services, project work, public areas, linen, bed turnover, trash removal and RMW.
Accountable for effective supervision of EVS employees with consistent application of P&P to drive BH mission and values. Ensures customers' needs are met and procedures are in compliance with applicable standards. Contributes to and promotes a teamwork environment. These functions are performed in accordance with the Baystate Health system’s philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards
Under the direction of the Environmental Services Manager or Assistant to the Manager, maintain and monitor all housekeeping functions. Assist with security issues.
Job Responsibilities:
1) Staff Supervision
Supervision of EVS staff; assure efficient and effective workflows, address personnel issues, evaluations, scheduling, Kronos, orientation and staff development, disciplinary action, hiring, termination and similar activities. Resolves grievances and personnel issues and works in collaboration with Human Resources, Department Director, and Departmental Management team. Ensures staff compliance of all BH policies and procedures, as well as all existing practices in EVS. Supervise shift employees and complete inspections of employee work assignments.
2) Complete report of shift activity for the Manager. Train new employees.
3) Participate in the staff evaluation process. Assist with scheduling and staffing of other shifts as required.
4) Answer pages for housekeeping.
5) Participate in corrections of safety hazards.
6) Contact Pest Control when issues arise.
7) Inspect equipment and determine the need for new parts, repairs, overhauls, or replacement.
8) Inspect equipment for cleanliness before and after use.
9) Prepare cleaning and disinfecting solutions. Record supplies dispensed to the housekeeping staff.
10) Attend meetings as required and participate in educational programs.
11) Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental procedures, and infection control. Perform other duties as required or assigned by the Manager.
12) Deliver linen as requested.
13) Respond to helicopter and security alerts.
14) Required to perform other duties as needed: housekeeping aide.
15) Perform other duties in the absence of the Director or Environmental Services as requested.
16) Follow proper policies for all procedures.
17) Use best judgment when policies or procedures do not exist. Report or communicate to Environmental Services Director.
18) Addresses dirty needles found improperly stored, equipment malfunctions, electrical hazards, and safety hazards.
19) Must be able to wear disposable gloves for cleaning of bathroom fixtures, handling of all types of waste, cleaning of blood and bodily fluids, and handling of soiled linens.
Required Work Experience:
1) If no high school/GED up to 5 months on the job training.
2) 2 years in general custodial/housekeeping experience in health care or other similar institutions.
3) 2 years of custodial/housekeeping supervising experience.
