    Are you interested in a career that allows you to serve local communities by reducing wildfire risk, and promoting healthy forests? The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for a Forest Fire Protection Assessment Fiscal Specialist, Fiscal Analyst 2 (FA2).

    The Wildland Fire Management Division provides wildland fire assistance to landowners throughout the State of Washington. Forest Fire Protection Assessment Program (FFPA) is a fee paid by private forest landowners and exempt entities (such as counties, cities, non-profits, and state landowners). It covers the cost of preparing to fight wildfires, including purchasing fire engines, training crews, and acquiring equipment. This position will be an integral part of the process by providing fund management assistance, fund reconciliations, and fiscal tracking for the Wildfire Planning & information section.

    To be successful in this position you not only need an understanding of state financial systems, but you also need to showcase outstanding customer service skills. This position will consistently be representing the agency when speaking to landowners and the general public and have to be able to adapt to their audiences.     Responsibilities:

    • Independently provide financial services to the Forest Fire Protection Assessment Program.
    • Build a strong and positive rapport with counties and coordinate the collection of FFPA and prepare FFPA billings to exempt entities.
    • Represent the agency in a positive manner when interacting with the public.
    • Uses independent judgement to determine eligibility and notify county assessors of changes to the tax rolls.
    • Independently plan and prioritize work and project deadlines.
    • Reconcile fund balance transfers between the Forest Fire Protection Assessment (FFPA) and the Landowners Contingency Forest Fire Suppression account (LCFFSA).
    • Assist the expense tracking and coordination between the Wildland Fire Business and the Wildfire Planning & Information sections.

    Required Qualifications:

    • An associates degree in accounting, auditing, budgeting, or general business administration AND 1 year of experience in a financial field.

    OR, an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

    • Successful completion of 18 quarters / 12 semester credits in accounting.

    OR, a successful completion of accounting credits within 12 months of hire.

    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Confidentiality.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $44,400.00 - $58,104.00 per year
