Job Summary:
The Assistant Controller is responsible for leading accounting operations and month end financial close for Morning Fresh Farms operations. Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, reports, and budgets. Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities. Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and company policies. Perform financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. Support the Controller in managing month-end and year-end close processes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Develop and implement internal controls to mitigate financial risks. Provide guidance and support to accounting staff as needed. Assist in the preparation of tax filings and audits. Stay updated on accounting standards and industry trends to ensure best practices are followed. The Assistant Controller is a hands-on leader who enjoys change management, process building, and shaping the future of the company. This position requires a high level of leadership and people skills, accounting and financial acumen, and data and analytic skills to be successful.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices, including but not limited to tax laws, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), federal acquisition regulations (FAR), and cost accounting standards (CAS).
- Responsible for producing periodic financial statements and account reconciliations in association with periodic closes.
- Responsible for creating/maintaining/improving month end and year end close check lists.
- Oversees General Accounting.
- Responsible for coaching, developing, mentoring, and guiding direct reports through regular one-on-ones and other touchpoints.
- Supports Controller by providing documents and support to external accounting firm during audit of company financial records and preparation of company taxes.
- Provides daily financial reporting of production and expense metrics as requested by the Controller.
- Provides ad hoc reporting as requested from internal stakeholders.
- Assists in preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and estimates. Compares actuals to projected results and prior year actuals.
- Assists in performing operational analysis, trends, projections, and forecasting vs. month budgeted KPI's.
- Communicates recommendations of continuous improvement to operational managers as it pertains to financial reporting and KPI's.
- Ensures that the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel. Responsible for the continued development and coaching of these employees, as well as day-to-day management duties (one-on-ones, PTO approvals, reviews, etc.)
- Provides treasury management including oversight of A/R, A/P & bank reconciliations.
- Maintains knowledge of developments and trends in finance and administration including technological advances.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel.
- Ability to understand operations' systems including manufacturing batching systems, warehouse management systems, poultry flock management systems and their interfaces with the ERP.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- Five plus years of accounting experience with escalating responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- CPA or CMA
- Agriculture or Food Manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- Grain accounting experience
- Proficient with accounting related software, in particular QuickBooks and Microsoft Dynamics Business Central
- Experience with Power BI or other data analytic tools.
