Assistant Director of Career Development - Strategic Partnership

  • The Assistant Director is responsible for strategic development of employer partnerships through a strong professional development approach that results in internship and job opportunities for undergraduate students. Specifically responsible for identifying and cultivating targeted employer partnerships; planning, coordinating, and implementing programs and services to promote career and employment success for undergraduate students; representing Career Development at Linfield University programs that meet the needs of students, parents, employers, and alumni; and provide career and life planning and coaching to undergraduate students.
    This is a 1.0 FTE position, working full-time Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm, with some evening and weekend responsibilities.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and advocacy in work with students, colleagues, community partners, alumni, faculty, staff, and employers
    • Work with on-campus and off-campus constituents to develop programming to fit with Linfield University strategic planning initiatives from a Career Development perspective.
    • In partnership with the Career Development Director and team, manage an employer outreach strategic plan which includes:
      • Proactive and consistent relationship development and outreach to recruiters, alumni, and community partners to support student success initiatives o Development and advancement of undergraduate employment and recruiting activity;
      • Oversite and progression of the professional connections programming (ConnectMe)
      • Utilization and integration of Linfield University alumni and community partners into career development programming
      • Data collection, analysis, reporting; Serve as the lead for utilization and implementation of Career Development database (Symplicity or similar) software, Basecamp program software, web development, and additional online career software.
      • Tracking geographical university needs and areas for opportunistic expansion;
      • Building and maintaining relationships with potential employers of Linfield graduates to understand corporate sourcing needs, assist with corporate recruiting efforts, provide educational opportunities to students, and assist in student career development.
    • Provide leadership researching key industry trends and opportunities affecting undergraduate hiring and provide information to students, staff, faculty, and administration.
    • Manage planning and logistics for career programs designed to bring employers and students together including, but not limited to, classroom career education, annual opportunity (job, internship, graduate school) expos (or similar programming), and micro-work opportunities
    • Conceptualize, design, and deliver comprehensive career management coaching and curriculum to students by engaging in collaborative relationships with alumni, parents, community members, faculty, staff, and employers.
    • Provide individual and group student coaching on career development and job search strategies for key areas of interest.
    • Support students to develop and continually refine a job search strategy/marketing plan for both internship and full-time employment which includes guiding, assisting, and holding students accountable in the achievement of set goals.
    • Work collaboratively with University Advancement to integrate programming for alumni and parents as employer resources.
    • Oversee process, collection, and reporting for employer and graduate employment surveys.
    • Represent Linfield University and the Office for Career Development through public speaking engagements on campus and in the larger community.
    • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating:

    • Superior customer engagement orientation (students, employers, and internal constituencies)
    • Strong career coaching and life design skills approach
    • Excellent program management leadership with equal emphasis on process, people, and results
    • Excellent presentation and written communication skills
    • Strong growth mindset with ability to adapt to change
    • Well-informed about business/industry trends and activity
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with the career development team, all undergraduate school faculty, staff, community partners, and recruiters
    • Ability to manage, coach, and develop staff
    • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook/Calendar)
    • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record to become/remain certified to operate Linfield vehicles and equipment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree
    • Bilingual
    • Prior experience in a higher education or recruiting environment
