Job Summary
Columbus State University has an opening for an Assistant Director of Financial Aid - Technology. This position will report to the Director of Financial Aid under the Division of Enrollment Services. This position is responsible for maintaining the functional aspects of the Financial Aid module of Banner, including system setup, implementation, analysis, problem resolution, maintenance, reporting, and regulatory updates. This position is also responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of current issues and trends occurring in the SIS community as it relates to Financial Aid and reporting. The Assistant Director of Financial Aid will work with the financial aid leadership team to improve efficiencies within all functional areas of Financial Aid by using technology to provide systematic solutions to problems and enhancement of existing processes.
Responsibilities
Significant responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Banner Processing
- Lead Banner administrator on all internal and external audits
- Lead data security officer for Banner Financial and other data projects
- Lead collaborator with ITS on financial aid related business operations
- Ensure valid testing and timely implementation of all Banner releases, upgrades, and patches
- Maintain all Banner financial aid rules, new year set-ups, population selections, electronic communications, budgeting, packaging, and disbursements
- Review and maintain all Banner related policies and procedures to ensure compliance with FSA regulations
- Provide Banner Financial Aid processing training to Financial Aid and Enrollment Service Center staff
- Oversee and recommend efficiency changes to all system related operations of the financial aid department including but not limited to: file exchanges between financial aid and both Federal and State programs, Banner batch processing, interaction of functional and technical issues
- Work with colleagues to ensure the successful implementation of new technologies and related systems.
- Perform complex financial aid processes, such as creating award letters, clearing system exceptions, performing verification, repackaging aid for new award years, managing student changes in status and determining student funding eligibility.
- Create, monitor and maintain all Financial Aid Banner jobs and processes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and other financial aid program regulations and institutional policies.
- Assisting students and resolving issues in person/phone calls/emails
- Assist students/families in all aspects of the financial aid process by delivering accurate information in a polite and professional manner, including financial aid interviews, on-campus appointments, and inquiries from prospective and continuing students and their families.
- Work together with the Student Accounts team to ensure Financial Aid participation in student support initiatives and to assist with retention efforts
- Works in conjunction with Director to coordinate communication between Financial Aid, Bursar, Registrar, and Admissions to ensure student issues are resolved for timely student awards
- Serves as first level complaint resolution for staff, student, and/or family complaints
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 years of progressive financial aid experience, and/or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Extensive knowledge of information, practices and procedures in financial aid to include federal and state regulations
- Knowledge of Banner or similar student financial aid software
- Experience in awarding of Title IV funds to include Direct Loans, Pell, SEOG and Federal Work Study and state funds to include Student Access Loan (SAL), HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship
- Knowledge and experience in National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), Common Origination and Disbursement Database (COD).
- Knowledge of student's eligibility as determined by the Department of Education
- Understanding of verification, unusual enrollment history, default, citizenship and satisfactory academic progress (SAP)
- Understanding and ability to process verification through Campus Logic
- Experience and knowledge of Ellucian Banner 9 financial aid functions
- Experience with database testing, updates, and patches.
- Experience with developing and managing communications for incomplete applications and federal verification and mass communications
- Experience with MS Word, MS Excel, Google mail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, loan processing, and file servers
- Strong public speaking skills for financial aid presentations to faculty, staff, students and parents
- Experience writing SQL and running Banner Financial Aid processes
- Experience training staff
Proposed Salary
The annualized salary range for this position is $48,723 - $54,814 and includes full benefits.
