    Job Summary:

    Assist the district in the development and maintenance of infrastructure and programs which enable educators to utilize various technologies for educational purposes and the maximization of efficiency. Oversee the streamlined operation of the IT department and to ensure it aligns with the objectives of the Georgetown County School District. Develop and manage application portfolios for each department and to attain all IT service level agreements for the user community within the organization.

     

    The Executive Director of IT will plan, coordinate, direct, and design all operational activities of the IT department, as well as provide direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical operations, and information security. The Executive Director of IT will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the Georgetown County School District.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in Information Technology and Information Systems, Systems Analysis, or related area
    • 7-10 years of progressive IT leadership experience in managing and leading diverse technology teams in complex organizations
    • Experience in a K-12 environment is preferred

    Essential Duties:

    • Ensure that the technology objectives and programs are aligned with the organization
    • Direct and coordinate the management and operation of the shared information systems infrastructure, including academic and administrative computing, telecommunications, and data network systems
    • Oversee and direct the development, design, and implementation of new applications and changes to existing computer systems and software packages
    • Set priorities, initiate projects, and issue directives regarding technology services
    • Provide technology related guidance and assistance in support of the school district’s instructional program
    • Direct continuing review of present systems and methods, and formulation of new and revised systems
    • Examine techniques in use, and determine appropriate changes to effect improvements, reduce cost, and enhance efficiency
    • Develop and maintain a cyber-security plan for best standards and practices for the organization
    • Make recommendations to the Executive Team about cyber-security advancements to best protect organizational assets/resources
    • Ensure the security of the information systems, communication lines, and equipment
    • Develop and manage annual budgets performing periodic cost and productivity analyses
    • Authorize expenditures and payments of technology purchases for the organization.
    • Oversee E-Rate processing for the organization, which includes developing budgets, determining application priorities, adhering to timelines, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring compliance
    • Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish departmental objectives; recruit, employ, train, supervise, and evaluate staff
    • Collaborate with and provide guidance to the Executive Team examining existing and defining new objectives for proposed system improvements
    • Write technical requests for information and request for proposals (RFP) for leading edge technologies; evaluate proposals and negotiate contracts for equipment and systems
    • Maintain proficiency in relevant state-of-the-art technology, and electronic equipment and/or systems
    • Works closely with the Operations Department in designing school facilities for the effective use of technologies
    • Serve as an adviser on all matters pertaining to technology implementation, including needs assessment, evaluation, contract procurement, and implementation
    • Extensive knowledge of technology and communications systems analysis, design, construction, integration, operation, security, and maintenance
    • Comprehensive knowledge of technology standards, and policies
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of process innovation and redesign, project management, and contract management
    • Skill in identifying opportunities and achieving success through effective employment of technology
    • Extensive knowledge and skill in supervising and evaluating staff performance. Including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
    • Extensive knowledge in budget preparation and fiscal management including E-Rate funds and related regulations
    • Extensive knowledge to analyze and evaluate complex technical issues and make decisions on appropriate courses of action
    • Ability to develop, present, and defend reports on technology both orally and in writing
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, school administrators, teachers and staff; strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Perform related tasks as required

     

    Other Duties:
    Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
