Job Description: Assistant Manager-in-Training- Entry level

Job Type: Full time, Year-Round, must be able to work weekends, evenings and holidays

Job Summary: Provide leadership and foster a team atmosphere in a retail-oriented environment. The AIT will work extensively with the store manager to develop and build on communication and delegation skills, sales, merchandising, product knowledge and Point of Sale operations. The AIT will also learn the financial and daily cash flow procedures.

CountryMax Overview: Beginning in 1984 as a small farm supply and feed store owned by the Payne family, CountryMax has grown into one of western New York State’s biggest success stories. CountryMax now operates 16 locations spanning from Buffalo to just north of Binghamton, and employs over 300 team members, a number that continues to grow each year. Over time the product offering as well as store size has increased dramatically- in addition to farm and feed supplies, CountryMax is now a one-stop shop for all lawn and garden products, pet supplies, small pets, clothing and backyard wild bird feeding. Position Outline: The assistant manager-in-training position is a key management position in the store. The AIT will receive hands on education in the store with the ultimate goal to become a store manager. The timeline will be determined by the performance and merit of the assistant manager-in-training. The AIT needs to be a self-starter and motivator to provide a positive example to the other store team members. Along with the store manager, the AIT will be tasked with operating the day-to-day store tasks in an effective and efficient manner. The AIT will also be expected to continue to educate and build upon their own skill set under the supervision of the store manager. The essential job functions include (but are not limited to) are:

· When the store manager is not working, the AIT is the acting manager on duty and must be able to conduct themselves in that manner

· Provide top-notch CountryMax helpful service, including carrying out any and all products for customers and patrons

· Achieve sales goals and profitability targets in the store

· Delegate, manage, discipline and educate the store team members

· Assist the store manager in day-to-day operations within the store

· Assist the store manager in evaluating the performance of the team members and creating a store schedule that keeps the store running at top level efficiency

· Regulate and control the overall store inventory with the store manager

· Operate Point of Sale terminals and financial transactions

· Follow the daily cash flow procedures including opening and closing the store along with identifying and correcting any cash flow discrepancies

· Manage the overall store maintenance and merchandising to keep the store presentable and neat

· Maintain a clean and safe environment

Position Requirements:

The assistant manager-in-training role will be based primarily out of the home store. The assistant manager -in-training will work in multiple departments to gain experience and learn the daily operations that occur at the store level. The AIT will need to be open to constantly being educated and learning new elements of being an effective assistant store manager. The AIT will need to be punctual and be able to work a variety of hours and shifts. A high energy, self-starter is a must for this position. Some other positional requirements are listed below:

· Previous experience in a retail environment is strongly preferred

· Previous management experience is not a requirement but is strongly preferred

· Valid NYS motor vehicle operator’s license

· Proficient on a PC, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

· Past experience operating a Point-of-Sale terminal is a plus

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

· Ability to stand on your feet for a large portion of the store’s operating hours

· Proven ability to work in a fast paced, retail environment

· Customer service and keen social skills are a must

· High school diploma is required, with a preference to at least 1-2 years of college education

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
