Director, Assistant, Student Conduct

  • The Assistant Director for Student Conduct supports the office’s mandate to respond reactively to concerns about student behavior and to queries about student policies, procedures, and administrative options. The position also supports the office’s mission to respond proactively to community members’ need for access to student conduct guidance via multiple pathways in real time. In combination the position is a primary student conduct investigator, a preferred training provider, and a subject matter expert.
    Mid Salary $61,593.05 - We offer a competitive salary package that will be determined based on the candidate's experience level and qualifications related to the job. Compensation will be commensurate with your level of experience. Duties/Functions
    • CONDUCT PROCESS ADJUDICATOR: In conjunction with the director, manage a case load of formal student conduct investigations as the primary investigator—from receipt of an incident report through active investigation, disposition, and participation in any resulting appeal proceedings; for cases in which the director serves as the primary investigator, serve as a student advisor or advocate upon student request; for cases in which the director serves as the primary investigator, organize and convene the appeal hearing committee upon student request; in consultation with the director, offer and apply informal resolution pathways to student conduct concerns or disclosures—sometimes as a primary effort and sometimes as a deferral from the formal conduct process.
    • TRAINER AND FACILITATOR: Contribute to training twice yearly for the members of the student conduct appeal hearing committee; Contribute to training each semester for faculty and staff members at professional development days; contribute to regular student information sharing efforts across multiple campus locations in the form of information tables, classroom guest lectures, bulletin board materials, and attendance at Student Life events; serve on the college’s behavioral intervention team (C.A.R.E.) as a standing core member; update the college’s student handbook annually; contribute to annual strategic planning for the office in consultation with the director.
    • REPRESENTATIVE: Along with the director, serve as a primary contact person for Campus Police and members of the college’s threat assessment team when disseminating information about a student in crisis; represent the office at meetings—both within the division and across the institution—either in the director’s absence or in a supporting role to the director; provide consultations and respond to information requests from community members by phone, email, video chat, and in-person appointments (scheduled and walk-in); provide data and copy-editing services for annual Clery, VAWA, and DAAPP reports; serve on related committees as needed in conjunction with the director
    • SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Serve as a high-level administrator of the student conduct records software—ensure that records are complete and accurate, guarantee responses to all incoming reports, perform routine data analysis using premade and custom analytics, interpret records upon employee request, and contribute to the development and revision of new reporting forms; maintain familiarity with college policies and procedures that govern student conduct and expression; provide feedback to the director on recommended changes to policy and procedure; conduct online research to benchmark college policies and procedures against peer institutions; contribute to the development and extension of office protocols for successfully fulfilling policy and procedure requirements.

    Education Required
    Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a concentration that the candidate can link to the job requirements in the application materials
    Education Preferred
    Masters degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a concentration in student affairs, counseling, human services, or a discipline that the candidate can link to the job requirements in the application materials
    Experience Required
    For candidates possessing a masters degree, at least one cumulative year of college student services administration experience (can be regular paid work, internship, assistantship, research fellow, etc.); For candidates not possessing a masters degree, at least three years of work within a college student services division
    Experience Preferred
    For candidates possessing a masters degree, three or more years of work within a college student services division; For candidates not possessing a masters degree, five or more years of work within a college student services division; For all candidates, experience developing and facilitating large and small-group presentations
    KSA Required
    • Ability to apply student investigation protocols in a prompt, thorough, and respectful manner;
    • Ability to exercise considerable judgment based upon a thorough knowledge of laws, policies, and best practices;
    • Excellent analytical skills;
    • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff;
    • Ability to work independently with light supervision;
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of students records;
    • Ability to operate a personal computer;
    • Ability to participate as a team member, ability to understand and interpret rules and regulations, and ability to readily adjust to change;
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    KSA Preferred
    • At least basic knowledge of restorative justice practices
    • At least basic knowledge of systems theory analysis (as it applies to higher education institutions)
    • At least basic knowledge of student development theorists such as Baxter Magolda
