Instructor of Biology
The Department of Biology at Mercyhurst University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-
track faculty position in Biology at the instructor level to begin August 2024. The department seeks a
passionate educator who works effectively with others in a collegial environment and is dedicated to
student learning.
The ideal candidate will be prepared to instruct a wide range of undergraduate courses in biology for
both science and non-science majors at the introductory and upper level. Candidates must be able to
demonstrate proficiency in teaching human anatomy and physiology. Preference will be given to
individuals with expertise or teaching experience in cell and molecular biology, human biology,
cadaveric anatomy, neurobiology and/or parasitology. Candidates may also have the opportunity to
develop specialty courses in their areas of expertise. The successful candidate may be responsible for
instructing afternoon and evening courses and/or developing online courses.
Other requirements include an ability to effectively provide a variety of instructional strategies and
techniques; proven competency in subject matter expertise and an ability to effectively convey expertise
to students; ability to create and maintain a technology enhanced learning environment; ability to
interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying age levels; utilize technology
to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidate will be responsible for student advising,
participating in faculty scholarship/development, and providing service to the department, school, and
university.
Applicants must have a minimum of a master’s degree in biology, or related field, from an accredited
institution with preference given to candidates with teaching experience in higher education.
