The Chemical Engineering faculty at the University of California Merced invite applications for the position of Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor to coordinate, develop and teach undergraduate courses in all areas of Chemical Engineering with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.
The successful candidate will play a key role in implementing a new Chemical Engineering program, creating both core curriculum and new technical electives. The Teaching Professor series parallels that of the research-focused series but with emphasis upon excellence in teaching and other instruction-related activities.
Candidates at all levels will be considered. Applicants who have not yet achieved tenure will be considered for tenure on a standard schedule. Individuals in the position are expected to provide outstanding teaching and engage in professional activity, including but not limited to research on pedagogy and service related to the pedagogical mission of the School of Engineering and UC Merced.
This appointment confers membership in the Academic Senate. Ideal candidates: (1) are enthusiastic about working with UC Merced's diverse student body; (2) have demonstrated management or organizational skills and will be comfortable advising students on industrial career paths, entrepreneurship, and graduate study opportunities; (3) have significant teaching experience, particularly
using student success centered approaches focused on inclusive engineering education; and (4) are interested in pushing design thinking and experience forward with a teaching approach that is suited to recent and evolving needs.
The successful applicant is expected to have a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field, by the start date. A BS or MS in Chemical Engineering is required.
Demonstrated ability to teach effectively with a strong commitment to addressing the needs of a diverse student body. Awareness of and contribution to equity, diversity and inclusivity. Demonstrated commitment to pedagogical research and integration into teaching.
Additional qualifications of interest to the committee include any of the following: 1) Interest in or a track record of publication in the inclusive engineering education literature; 2) interest in or a track record of contributing pedagogical expertise to grant funding efforts; 3) industrial experience; or 4) willingness to participate in program industrial outreach and relationship building.
