Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Dentistry typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Brookhaven Gastroenterology is seeking an Accessioner/Lab Office Assistant for our growing pathology lab located in Westhampton, NY. This is a full time, permanent, day position for a motivated individual willing to learn new skills. The ideal candidate needs a high school diploma or equivalent and have relevant medical office experience. Some specialized training in medical office skills, and HIPAA compliance is preferred. Must be a quick learner, flexible, have excellent attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Receives specimens
- Performs accessioning (data entry) needed or required to facilitate accurate reporting of specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to include printing labels and cassettes
- Performs queries in (LIS) for basic patient information
- Reviews patient records for missing information and flags appropriately
- Faxes reports to clients manually and from the LIS and verifies success
- Scans patient information and sends to appropriate department
- Manages incoming and outgoing shipments and mail
- Files patient documents such as requisitions and insurance information
- Performs clerical duties for management
- Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, and other external sources
- Maintains send out of specimens and the send out log
- Prepares and prints out reports for the lab manager
- Assists with slide and block filing
- Keeps office area neat and organized
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Minimum: High School Diploma
Preferred : Experience in a medical office/lab
