    Summary

    The Grant Services & Analysis Office (GS&A) is seeking Research Administrator Associate to join their Unit Support team which provides a variety of research administration activities (i.e. proposal preparation, sponsored and non-sponsored project/grant reconciliation). GS&A is a unit of the Medical School Office of Research and serves the research community, providing high-caliber resources, services, and administrative support related to sponsored project administration at Michigan Medicine. The team in GS&A is committed to excellence in customer service. The chosen candidate must be experienced working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, have the ability to manage their workload, provide high quality customer service while adhering to differing procedural guidelines, and complete tasks in a timely manner.

    Grant Services & Analysis serves several functions for the Medical School and Michigan Medicine. GS&A serves as the central hub of research development, pre- and post-award administration of sponsored projects, and provides data analytics about research within the Medical School. GS&A designs and implements training and resources for faculty engaged in and research administration professionals that support research, with the goal of fostering a successful environment for obtaining and maintaining sponsored projects. GS&A provides enterprise-wide leadership, standards, and policies for the conduct of sponsored projects. In its role as a concierge for research administration, GS&A acts as a resource on how to support research development and administration across the U-M. In addition, the GS&A advocates for and adopts enterprise-level tools and resources to aid research administrators in the efficient, high-quality support of research.

    Who We are Looking For

    We are looking for a Research Administrator Associate to support our unit and successfully submit and procure sponsored awards. The chosen candidate will coordinate both the pre-award and post-award research and financial tasks associated with grant and contract administration. GS&A has a varied research and sponsored activity portfolio, from a variety of government agencies, foundations, and philanthropists. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about learning, is able to work independently, and a reliable problem solver with a positive attitude.

    Responsibilities*

    Post Award Research Administration

    • Monitor expenditures on sponsored and non-sponsored projects, providing faculty/staff with recommendations for adhering to sponsor approved budget allocations.
    • Review and reconcile monthly activity using eReconciliation
    • Assist in the enforcement of various sponsored research policies and procedures, and resolve inquires as needed.
    • Work with Sponsored Programs on the preparation of annual and/or final FSR and UG Reports in a timely manner.
    • Submit necessary effort changes, working with department Unit Administrator and HR staff.
    • Meet with research staff as necessary.

    Pre Award Research Administration

    • Assist in the pre-award process (e.g., coordination and preparation of necessary documentation; prepares budgets; applications; reports; financial statements)
    • Reviews complex sponsor guidelines and to accurately interpret solicitation requirements for application with University policies
    • Make sure all proposals meet agency and University guidelines, published timetables, and deadlines.
    • Ensure accuracy of data in eResearch prior to routing for appropriate approvals.

    Required Qualifications*

    • Bachelor degree and 1-3 years of grant and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience making sound, independent judgments; and balancing competing priorities.
    • Demonstrated experience with the use of M-Pathways, eResearch and Excel
    • Have stellar interpersonal/organizational skills, excellent written/verbal communication skills
    • Be able to proactively anticipate work requirements based on prior requests and instructions
    • Ability to demonstrate understanding of financial review calculations in previous experience as well as in the interview process

    Background Screening

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
