    Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
    The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students.     Position Summary
    The Eshelman Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy supports the training of highly motivated and ambitious scholars who have a strong desire to become leaders in healthcare, and change the healthcare landscape with groundbreaking research and innovations. This is an extraordinary opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research at the #1 School of Pharmacy in the US, and acquire the knowledge, research experience, and professional skills needed for a successful career in academia, industry, or government. The close proximity of UNC to the Research Triangle Park, which hosts numerous pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare companies, and to Duke University, North Carolina State University, and North Carolina Central University, provides trainees with abundant opportunities for research collaborations.

    Kim Brouwer, Pharm.D., Ph.D. Elucidating mechanisms of hepatic transport, and further developing strategies to assess and predict the impact of altered hepatic transporter function on drug disposition to improve therapeutic outcomes.

    Yanguang Cao, Ph.D. Quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP), pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), and systems biology lab that develops and employs mathematical and experimental approaches to unravel the mechanistic complexities of antibody PK/PD, disease progression, and evolution.

    Kevin Frankowski, Ph.D. Medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry research on hit-to-lead and preclinical optimization of small molecule therapeutics and chemical probes.

    Erin Heinzen, Pharm.D., Ph.D. Identifying genetic mutations that cause neurodevelopmental diseases, determining how the mutations cause disease, and translating gene discoveries into novel treatments for epilepsy, autism, and beyond.

    Lindsey James, Ph.D. Undertaking and leading innovative and novel projects focused on the chemical biology of chromatin regulation, with an emphasis on the development of small molecule chemical probes.

    Alexander Kabanov, Ph.D., Dr.Sci. Polymeric nanoparticle drug delivery for cancer therapy and its application in clinical settings, PK modeling to optimize immunomodulatory cancer therapies, and designing/testing new polymer-based mRNA drug delivery vehicles.

    Rihe Liu, Ph.D. Developing first-in-class biologics for the treatment of TNBC, GI cancers and their liver metastasis, obesity, and substance addictions, using cutting-edge technologies.

    Eugene Muratov, Ph.D. Combining the development of data science methodologies and tools, and practical application of these tools for various fields of science.

    Juliane Nguyen, Ph.D. Translating cutting-edge research into life-changing therapies for patients with cancer, myocardial infarction, colitis, and other diseases.

    Zhenwei Song, Ph.D. Developing safer AAV vectors for gene therapy using 3D spheroid models to evaluate liver toxicity.

    Kathleen Thomas, Ph.D., MPH. Examining the quality of substance abuse services by intersectional status based on age, race, gender, comorbidities and contextual factors, such as rurality and social determinants of health.

    Alexander Tropsha, Ph.D. Computational drug discovery, cheminformatics, computational toxicology, structural bioinformatics, and health informatics with an emphasis on methodology development and experimentally testable hypotheses generation.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
    This fellowship is open to exceptional graduate students and early postdoctoral scholars with doctoral degrees (PhD, PharmD, MD, etc.), unique capabilities, intellectual curiosity, and the potential to make a significant and sustained commitment and contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences.

    Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
    Interested applicants should be completing their terminal doctoral degree within three months, and early postdoctoral scholars should hold a terminal doctoral degree for three years or less at the time of application.
