Associate Bursar has responsibility of one or several aspects of institutional funds. Oversees the operations of student financial services, billing and receivables, and cashiering functions of the university/college. Being an Associate Bursar ensures compliance with university, state, and federal regulations and standard accounting procedures. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Associate Bursar typically reports to Bursar. The Associate Bursar manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Staff Accountant
Duties:
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
- Conduct bank reconciliations to verify the accuracy of recorded transactions
- Utilize Sage accounting software to process and record financial transactions
- Manage accounts payable process, including reviewing and processing invoices, and ensuring timely payments
- Assist with financial accounting tasks, such as preparing financial statements and reports
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions in the general ledger
- Perform general ledger reconciliations to identify and resolve any discrepancies
- Prepare journal entries to record financial transactions accurately
- Stay updated on technical accounting standards and ensure compliance with GAAP
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of balance sheet reconciliation processes
- Proficiency in conducting bank reconciliations
- Experience working with Sage accounting software
- Familiarity with accounts payable procedures and practices
- Solid understanding of financial accounting principles and practices
- Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining financial records
- Ability to perform general ledger reconciliations effectively
- Proficient in preparing journal entries for accurate financial reporting
- Knowledge of technical accounting standards and their application in practice
- Understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
