Position Summary
Responsible for strategic and tactical sourcing of assigned commodity parts, supplier base and project management. Execute orders, delivery and logistics of goods and services in support of production and service departments. Researches, recommends, and helps develop new sources of supply and/or recommends possible substitute materials. Provides assistance throughout the department and company as needed to maintain adequate materials and services.
The Buyer will work with manufacturing and materials on: scheduling, inventory control, warehousing and logistics incorporating best practices to eliminate waste and non-value add. The Buyer shall participate in cross-functional teams with Engineering, Accounting, Quality, and Sales to support the customer and Fedco’s requirements. This position is fast paced and a key team contributor while being physically present on the manufacturing floor.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages supplier / commodities to ensure ongoing supply, appropriate pricing, and develop Supplier Agreements as needed.
- Work with suppliers to develop continuous improvement plans and metrics to monitor performance.
- Perform day-to-day purchasing functions including: requisition, orders, MRP, reports, supplier acknowledgements, expediting, blankets/releases, non-conforming, root cause/corrective action, accounting discrepancies, scheduling, outside services, and RFQ’s.
- Consults with Engineering and Manufacturing relating to part deviations, product design issues and/or ECN
- Maintains appropriate inventory based on Sales projections and historical usage.
- Provide timelines and information regarding product orders, receipts, delivery dates, quantities, and priorities.
- Maintain compliance to purchasing and supply chain/materials policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements
- Ideal candidate will be detail oriented, and self-motivated.
- Strong team player with ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
- Experience with ERP software systems.
- Understanding of: Manufacturing processes, Material Resource Planning.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Ability to read and understand blue prints a plus.
- Effective organizational skills and time management.
- Proficient with MS Office is necessary. Windows, Excel, Outlook, and Word
Education and Experience
- 2-4yr degree in Business preferred
- 2-5 (two to five) years purchasing or materials management experience
- APICS or CPIM Certification a plus
