  • Plan and coordinate the postbaccalaureate training program activities that occur at the University of Arizona

    • Match program participants to faculty members in the University of Arizona Cancer Center whose research is aligned with the participants’ long-term career goals.
    • Plan professional development sessions, and as appropriate, teach the sessions or recruit appropriate University of Arizona staff or faculty members to lead these.
    • Plan social events that allow the program participants to network with peers and role models.
    • Plan a final, end-of-year event for the program.
    • Partner with evaluation experts to assess the impact of this training program.
    • Plan and implement a speaker series that brings faculty members from other universities to interact with the program participants, sharing their professional journeys and research projects.
    • Make the necessary arrangements for the participants attendance at national conferences that are relevant to progress of the participants into cancer-relevant doctoral degree programs.
    • As needed, assist the participants with preparing materials for presentations at the national conferences (e.g., poster presentation).
    • Accompany participants to the national conferences, as needed.

    Coordinating cancer education and cancer-relevant lessons for junior high and high school teachers

    • Become familiar with the lessons that the University of Cancer Center has already created.
    • Deliver the lessons to teachers upon request and collect them back after the lessons are complete.
    • Maintain a record-keeping system and output metrics for outreach programs.

    Plan and deliver a summer workshop to familiarize junior high and high school teachers with the cancer-relevant lessons developed by the Cancer Center.

    • Advertise and recruit teachers who are not familiar with the Cancer Center lessons.
    • Plan the schedule for the workshop, make room reservations in the Cancer Center.
    • Instruct the teachers in lessons and/or recruit Cancer Center staff as instructors.
    • Partner with evaluation experts to assess the impact of this training program.

    Follow university practices for handling program expenses and monitoring the budget

    • As needed, order supplies needed for operation of the program.
    • Complete necessary paperwork related to program expenses (e.g., P-card reports, travel requests and travel reimbursement).
    • Review budget reports provided by the University of Arizona Cancer Center’s business office, to ensure accuracy with program expenses.
