    We have an opportunity for a top candidate to join Maryville College’s staff as the new Associate Dean of Students/Director of Residence Life.

    The Associate Dean of Students provides leadership for programs and services designed to positively impact student wellbeing and engagement at Maryville College. This newly established leadership role is a great opportunity for an experienced Student Affairs professional to support MC community standards of trust, respect, integrity while fostering a residential environment that is inclusive, engaging and promotes student learning and growth outside of the classroom. The Dean will be adaptable with demonstrated experience in leadership and team development, change management, and strategic planning.

    The Associate Dean reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs. The Associate Dean of Students serves as the Senior Student Conduct Officer, Director of Residence Life, chairs the MC Cares Team; supervises the Director of Counseling Services. The Associate Dean also plays an integral role in student engagement by fostering a residential environment that is inclusive, positive, engaging and promotes student learning and growth outside of the classroom. The Associate Dean provides training and development of the live-in Resident Directors (RD), the Resident Assistants (RA) and campus collaborators.

    Your primary job duties and responsibilities would include:

    Student Conduct

    • Coordinate Student Code of Conduct and compliance with salient federal requirements. Serve on other College committees as assigned and/or appointed.
    • Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for students.
    • Collaboratively review, develop, and implement policies related to student well-being and ensure that the policies are up to date and are being implemented fairly and consistently across the student body.
    • Coordinate persistence, retention, wellness, and violence prevention programming in collaboration with campus partners

    Wellness

    • Provide oversight of the Colleges partnership with telehealth services for students in collaboration with the Counseling Center Director
    • Integrate assessment into programs and services and produce reports for the SA team and relevant constituents.
    • Chair the MC Cares team; co-chair the wellness council with the Counseling Center Director
    • Lead campus community health reporting in collaboration with the directors of Disability Resources, Counseling Services, and Title IX.

    Residence Life

    • Provide direction, oversight and professional development for the live-in Resident Directors, Residence Life Assistant Directors, and Resident Assistants
    • Provide leadership for Residence Life programs, including experiences during the academic year, and during the summer months for residential students
    • Work with the Assistant Director of Residential Involvement to implement recruitment, training, and supervision of Resident Assistants
    • Manage student room and board charges, and assist Vice President for Student Affairs with room and board projections and budgets in collaboration with the Housing Operations and Communications Coordinator.
    • Manage external contracts related to the community, programming, and initiatives within the residence halls
    • Provides fiscal management for Residence Life budget
    • Ensures compliance with relevant policies, procedures, professional standards, laws and national trends as applicable
    • Supports crisis response, risk management and serves in the on call rotation with other staff, which requires evening and weekend availability

    General administration and leadership

    • Directly supervises the Director of Counseling Center, Director of Military and Veteran Services, Assistant Director for Community Standards, and the Assistant Director of Residential Involvement.
    • Conduct regular assessment and review of area and staff performance, in alignment with established goals and objectives
    • Serve as staff advisor to the Peer Mentor Program, including recruitment and training of student mentors
    • Maintain communications with the Office of Disability Resources and Accessibility to meet residential accessibility needs
    • Serve on select committees, such as MC Cares, Student Threat Assessment Team, and other campus wide committees, as appointed
    • Partner with Operations, Campus Security, Facilities, and Information Technology to ensure residential communities are provided safe, healthy, and secure environments
    • Partner with Information Technology to ensure all staff are appropriately trained in designated systems, and providing ongoing assessments of system needs
    • Develop occupancy and revenue projections in partnership with the Vice President for Student Affairs
    • Oversee and develop effective policies and procedures
    • Collaborate with Dining Services, Athletics, and Admissions, and the Business Office on relevant communication campaigns for residential students
    • Manage relevant fiscal accounts and external contracts.

    Minimum qualifications for this job required are:

    Education required to ensure success in this position:

    • Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field, required.

    Experience required to ensure success in this position:

    • Minimum 5 years experience in a Student Affairs setting, required; demonstrated progressively increasing administrative duties with student conduct, conflict resolution, crisis management, program development, financial management, assessment, and supervision.
    • Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible and successful leadership in Residence Life
