Associate Dean of Education assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of education. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Education provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Education typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Education typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     The Ventura County Office of Education is a recognized leader in Career and Technical Education. The Career Education Center is known for its focus on serving students through impactful relationships, quality programming and life-changing opportunities. The Ventura County Office of Education is recruiting highly qualified and dynamic candidates seeking to share their passion and experience in the Welding industry with high school students.

    Applicants do not need to currently hold a Career Technical Education credential. VCOE will assist with obtaining the necessary credentials for this position.

    BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Principal, plan and teach a class within the specified career education subject area. The class will follow the California State CTE standards and provide students with relevant academic and technical instruction within the Welding industry. All classes will include appropriate work-based learning experiences for students, such as internships or industry-based projects. The selected candidate will develop relationships with local business partners in order to secure these opportunities for students.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

    Instruct high school students on skills necessary to enter specific entry-level positions in the specified industry; review and select instructional materials and develop lesson plans; provide lectures and demonstrations; review and update the curriculum relevance to the vocational field;

    Develop and maintain a course outline to provide group and individual instruction and to relate to student individualized training plans;

    Drive to various locations to participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of lab, work experience and internship programs; develop internship sites and contracts; make regular visits to sites where students are present.;

    Assess student progress; correct papers and assign grades; evaluate student skills and competencies through testing and observation; advise parents and students of student progress;

    Develop and maintain positive contacts with employers to assist in job placement opportunities for qualified students; assist in job placement;

    Provide for set up of labs and shop areas for demonstrations and on-going work;

    Provide for emphasis on safety and teach constant awareness of safe work habits;

    Prepare a variety of reports and records; take daily attendance and provide grade reports; maintain related records and prepare reports of student progress and related activities;

    Confer with industry representatives. Program administrators and others regarding needs and operations; work directly with Advisory Committees as assigned;

    Schedule and participate in field trips; arrange for special speakers as appropriate;

    Maintain and care for assigned equipment; provide inventory of equipment and supplies;

    Participate in in-service training, workshops, and training programs available to maintain an awareness of current practices in the field;

    Design and implement appropriate behavior management techniques for use in instructional and disciplinary practices;

    Perform other duties as assigned;

    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    Implementation of instructional programs including internships utilizing local agencies and businesses;

    Principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction;

    Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct;

    Principles of training and provide work direction;

    Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy;

    Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws;

    Research methods and report writing techniques;

    ABILITY TO:

    Provide instruction within the assigned subject area. Establish and maintain effective relationships with business and industry representatives to establish internship programs and advisory councils;

    Operate and demonstrate the use of laboratory materials and equipment;

    Monitor and evaluate student progress;

    Train and provide work direction to others;

    Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;

    Maintain records and prepare reports;

    Compile and verify data and prepare reports;

    Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions;

    Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action;

    Work independently with little direction and

    Meet schedules and timelines.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and possess a designated subject vocational education credential. If applicant does not possess the credential, he/she must have at least three years of work experience related to the subject to be named on the credential. One year of the required work experience shall be within the last five years or two years within the last 10 years of the issuance of the credential.

    LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    Valid California driver license.

    Qualification for teacher certification directly related to program served.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    ENVIRONMENT:

    Career Education Center classroom, laboratory or shop environment; subject to driving a vehicle to conduct work.

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    Requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print, requires the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend, requires the ability to stand for long periods, perform work which involves the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which may approximate 50 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 100 pounds. May be required to work with harsh and toxic substances, may be required to wear protective apparel including goggles, face protectors, aprons, shoes and oxygen breathing apparatus. May be required to work around loud noise, reaching overhead and above shoulders, and demonstrating skills in classroom, laboratory or shop settings. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time; hearing and speaking to exchange information; make presentations, teach and lecture. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate laboratory equipment and kneeling or crouching.

    SELECTION PROCEDURES:
