Associate Dean of Nursing jobs in the United States

Associate Dean of Nursing assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of nursing. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Nursing provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Nursing typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Nursing manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be an Associate Dean of Nursing typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Reports To: Executive Dean

    Position Overview: The Dean of Nursing provides visionary leadership and administrative oversight to the Nursing Department. The Dean is responsible for maintaining excellence in academic programs, fostering innovative teaching, and ensuring the success and development of faculty, staff, and students within the school.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Strategic Leadership:

    1. Develop and execute a strategic plan for the School of Nursing in alignment with the institution's mission and goals.

    2. Promote excellence, growth, and sustainability of all academic programs within the school.

    3. Advocate for the school at the university, local, state, and national levels.

    Academic Oversight:

    1. Ensure accreditation standards and professional nursing standards are met or exceeded.

    2. Oversee curriculum development, assessment, and improvement processes.

    3. Support and promote inter-professional education and collaboration.

    Faculty and Staff Development:

    1. Lead the recruitment, retention, and development of a diverse and qualified faculty and staff.

    2. Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment conducive to teaching, learning, and research.

    3. Conduct performance evaluations and provide mentorship opportunities.

    Student Success:

    1. Advocate for and support student recruitment, retention, and success initiatives.

    2. Promote a culture of academic excellence, research, and clinical practice among students.

    3. Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

    Research and Scholarship:

    1. Advance the school’s research agenda, encouraging faculty and student involvement.

    2. Secure funding and resources to support research activities and initiatives.

    3. Foster collaboration with other departments, institutions, and partners.

    Budgetary and Resource Management:

    1. Develop and manage the school's budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility.

    2. Allocate resources to align with strategic priorities and operational needs.

    3. Identify and pursue external funding opportunities.

    Community and External Relations:

    1. Strengthen partnerships with healthcare institutions, community organizations, and other external stakeholders.

    2. Represent the School of Nursing at professional meetings, conferences, and other events.

    3. Collaborate with alumni and donors to enhance support for the school’s initiatives.

    Qualifications:

    • Doctoral degree in nursing or related field.
    • Proven academic leadership experience, preferably in a similar role.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Strong record of scholarship and research in the field of nursing.
    • Effective communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.
    • Extensive knowledge of nursing education, accreditation processes, and contemporary healthcare issues.
