    THE COLLEGE

    Located in the northwest corner of the United States, Peninsula College is nestled in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains. The main campus in Port Angeles, Washington, overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the nearby city of Victoria, British Columbia, and has easy access to the Pacific Ocean, Olympic National Park, and Seattle. Port Angeles is two hours from Seattle and a one-hour ferry ride to Victoria, Canada. The College is honored to serve six sovereign American Indian nations in the region: Jamestown S’Klallam, Lower Elwha Klallam, Quileute, Makah, Hoh, and Port Gamble S’Klallam.

    The College is honored to have strong relationships with these six federally recognized Tribes in the College’s service district. The College is home to Longhouse of Learning. It is the first Longhouse in the nation to be built on a community College campus. The College offers transferable Indigenous language courses in Klallam/S’Klallam, Makah and Quileute and Hoh languages. Instructional programs include a Tribal Homeland Security & Emergency Management certificate and an Integrated Indigenous Studies transfer pathway.     THE POSITION

    Peninsula College is seeking a creative, innovative, and collaborative leader to serve as the Associate Dean for Advising and Student Support Services. Under the direction of the Vice President for Student Services, the Associate Dean is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating student advising and support services that are inclusive, equitable, welcoming, and focused on increasing student success from entry to completion. This Associate Dean is responsible for promoting student success within a Guided Pathways framework and working collaboratively on these efforts with all departments across campus. This position oversees staff responsible for academic advising, counseling, career and transfer advising, and support services for students with disabilities (SSD), diverse student populations, Running Start students, and Veterans.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Lead and administer college-wide Academic Advising and Counseling programs and services in accordance with established rules and regulation, as well as the Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles, and Strategic Plan of the College.
    • Develop and implement a culturally responsive, strengths-based, highly effective and proactive academic advising model in collaboration with students, faculty, and staff.
    • Develop departmental budget and maintain fiscal and program accountability.
    • Participate with Student Services Leadership (SSL) team in planning and budget development process for division and department.
    • Build and maintain positive interdepartmental relationships within the Divisions of Student Services, Instruction, and across campus to promote student success and completion, and to contribute to a positive learning community.
    • Plan, assign, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the work of department staff; Provide day-to-day leadership and work with staff to ensure a high-performance, service-oriented work environment.
    • Supervise program coordination of SSD, Running Start, and the Career Center.
    • Participate in managing student emergency grant funds.
    • Participate in strategic enrollment efforts.
    • Serve as a member of the C.A.R.E. (Concern-Assess-Respond-Evaluate) Team.
    • Work collaboratively with other areas of the college in developing and implementing a comprehensive onboarding experience for new students.
    • Serve as a member of the Guided Pathways Steering Committee.
    • Represent Peninsula College as a liaison with the Advising and Counseling Council under the Washington Student Services Commission.
    • Collaborate with Institutional Research in gathering and analyzing data to inform decision-making processes related to persistence, retention, completion, focused on equitable outcomes.
    • Stay informed about and provide leadership for the implementation of the latest technologies and practices for the delivery of effective and efficient academic advising and retention activities

    Including but not limited to participation in SBCTC led Guided Pathways workshops, retreats, and related activities.

    • Lead and oversee all ongoing training for professional advisors, faculty advisors, and counselors ensuring currency and relevancy.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience advising students in a professional setting
    • Supervisory experience

    • Strong organizational, communication, team building, and collaboration skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Student Development, Higher Education Leadership, or related field.
    • Community College Experience
    • Experience with Guided Pathways
    • Familiarity with ctcLink, PeopleSoft, and student success technology tools

    Required work schedule and work environment

    • Typical schedule is Monday - Friday 8-5. Some weekends/after hours as required.

    EMPLOYMENT PAY AND BENEFITS INFORMATION
