    The Lake Tahoe Community College District announces a unique and rewarding opportunity to work in college administration. Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Instruction manages functions associated with educational programs of the college and works in collaboration with administration in supporting faculty and other instructional initiatives. This cabinet-level position will provide leadership and further advancement of the institution’s diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism efforts in instructional services as well as continue the development of Guided Pathways initiatives.
    The Superintendent/President is seeking an innovative, energetic, and proven leader who is committed to student access, equity, and success. The beauty of the Lake Tahoe south shore provides for a truly stimulating environment for the entire college community. The Dean of Instruction will join a dynamic leadership team inspired by transforming the next generation of learners and closing the achievement gap. The Dean of Instruction will be appointed by the Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the Superintendent/President with input from the Vice President of Academic Affairs. LTCC is seeking applicants with direct instructional experience.
    Campus Leadership
    The College is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees elected by the citizens of the Lake Tahoe Community College District (LTCCD). Each trustee represents a different area within the district. A student trustee is elected by the students and is the official representative of the students to the Board. LTCC’s Board of Trustees has a reputation of being collegial and cohesive in their decision-making often voting unanimously as board.
    The College’s Senior Leadership Team is made up a committed group of educational leaders committed to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. The College is led by Superintendent/President Jeff DeFranco who has served in this role for six years and has been a senior administrator at LTCC for nearly a decade.

    APPLICATION PROCESS:
    After reviewing applications, those applicants judged most suitable for the position will be invited to first-round interviews. These applicants will be notified by phone on or about Thursday, February 15, 2024. Initial interviews are tentatively scheduled for February 29 and March 1, 2024 with final interviews occurring on or around the week of March 25, 2024. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview.
    Candidates advanced for final interviews for this position must agree to a full background and reference check.
    COMPENSATION:
    Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $126,353 to $139,305 with the potential to reach $161,263 annually through step advancement.
    In addition to base salary:
    • This position receives an annual in-district allowance of $4,800.
    • An annual technology allowance of $500.
    • LTCC also provides a doctoral stipend in the amount of $2,400 each year for senior leadership positions.
    • Moving allowance will be negotiated with the final candidate.


    Benefits: Health and Welfare benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Two plan options maintain a zero monthly premium cost from the employee and include full coverage of a gold-level medical plan that, on average, covers 80% of healthcare expenses for a standard population. LTCC also matches 19.1% of an eligible employee’s salary and contributes it into a CalSTRS pension account for qualifying employees.
    Work-Life Balance: It is understood that the demands of the position of Vice President, Academic Affairs will require more than eight (8) hours a day or forty (40) hours per workweek. After an introductory period, this position may qualify for the telecommute pilot program, which allows employees the opportunity to telecommute for up to 20% of the work week.
    This position is exempt from overtime compensation; however, LTCC provides 17 paid holidays per year plus 24 days of vacation and 12 days sick leave per year. Furthermore, LTCC has made a commitment to full closures during holidays and several weekends adjoining holidays to provide employees the ability to take advantage of holiday and vacation usage.
    In order to further the District’s strong commitment to staff excellence, administrators are encouraged to participate in meetings, conferences, institutes, courses, workshops, and other development activities for the purpose of developing or strengthening administrative skills, reviewing district operations and organization, and planning programs and activities for the improvement of the institution.
    This position will also be entitled to and expected to make full use of a 60-day paid professional development leave after five years of continuous administrative service.
    Terms: The Superintendent/President and the selected candidate will mutually agree on the terms of employment and the start date. The preferred start date is June 2023.
    Employment with LTCC is not official until the selected candidate meets all pre-employment requirements. All new employees are required to submit official transcripts, proof of freedom from tuberculosis, proof of eligibility to work in the United States, and fingerprints for California Department of Justice clearance.

    Definition:
    Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Instruction manages functions associated with educational programs of the college.

    Representative Duties:
    Responsible for the administration of assigned instructional and support programs and areas.
    Provide academic leadership to assigned instructional areas.
    Responsible for the development of quarterly class offerings and the preparation of the Schedule of Classes utilizing and further developing Guided Pathways and Strategic Enrollment Management frameworks.
    Provide leadership in the college’s Guided Pathways efforts, working collaboratively with faculty and staff to lead the implementation of specific initiatives related to Guided Pathways.
    Recommend to the Vice President of Academic Affairs new, revised, or updated programs and courses. Oversee the curriculum development process in new, revised, or updated programs and courses of study. Ensure curriculum process utilizes culturally-responsive curriculum and equity-based classroom practices.
    Support the advancement of the institution’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility efforts in support of students and instruction.
    Develop and administer assigned budgets. Assist with the planning of the annual District budget.
    Maintain necessary records and prepare reports as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
    Assist the Vice President of Academic Affairs in determining program development priorities and needs, assist in the development and approval of new and revised programs.
    Assist the Vice President of Academic Affairs in the evaluation of instructors and programs and recommend priorities for the establishment of full-time teaching and support positions in assigned areas.

    Perform personnel functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, supervising, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.
    Mediate any student, staff, and/or faculty issues and conflicts in assigned areas; coordinate with appropriate campus resources to aid in the positive resolution of such matters.
    Recommend and assign loads to adjunct faculty on a quarterly basis.
    Responsible for coordinating and preparing appropriate applications and/or grant proposals and administering certain grants and categorical programs.
    Serve as a liaison between Maintenance and Operations and faculty regarding instructional facilities.
    Manage the Annual and Comprehensive Program Review process in collaboration with faculty within the assigned Meta Major.
    Serve on a variety of district committees as requested and prepare presentations to campus governance and constituent groups. Participate in district all staff events including but not limited to all campus team building day, convocation, state of the college address, senior day, and graduation.

    Other Duties:
    Perform other duties assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

    Education and Experience:
    • Possess a master’s degree from an accredited institution.
    • Possess two or more years of recent professional experience in higher education, including two years of direct supervisory experience of academic programs.

    • Postsecondary teaching experience preferred.
