    The Undergraduate College at National Louis University is seeking An Associate Dean, Undergraduate Educator Preparation.

     

    Job Summary:

    The Associate Dean, Undergraduate Educator Preparation will lead the success and expansion of the Undergraduate Educator Preparation unit at NLU, which currently serves over 1,200 students annually across blended and online modalities and multiple campuses and includes a team of 29 faculty and staff. The Associate Dean will strengthen the academic and competency-based program portfolio along with growing the systems, technology, and team to prepare future educators for the evolving career paths in pre-k through 12 as well as education-adjacent roles. This position will be responsible for achieving academic excellence and external distinction through innovative and equity driven program offerings, teaching and learning excellence, and accreditation and recognition from external organizations (e.g., entitlement by Gateways for competency based modules, approval from the Illinois State Board of Education and accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation). The Associate Dean will closely follow emerging trends including shifts in state and national policies, accreditation changes, and employment opportunities through research, active engagement with external partners, and peer benchmarking in order to remain future-focused and achieve programmatic excellence while maintaining state and national standards. This position will work closely with Vice President for Undergraduate Education/Dean of the Undergraduate College (UGC) along with other executive leadership at NLU to develop and implement action plans to achieve the college’s and university’s strategic goals along with securing funding and partners to advance the innovation of undergraduate education preparation at NLU. Additionally, this position will work closely with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Professional Studies in the UGC to ensure ongoing strategic, programmatic, and operational alignment with UGC major, minor, and concentration expectations and priorities. The Associate Dean will also work collaboratively with National College of Education leadership to strengthen academic programs, faculty collaboration, and strengthen the enrollment pipeline to graduate programs.

The Pathways Program is in its second year serving undergraduate students at National Louis University. In 2016, we quadrupled in size and now serve almost 400 students and we expect to more than double in size next year. We work fearlessly on educating and retaining students.     Essential Responsibilities

    • Serve as academic leader of all undergraduate education programs across multiple modalities, overseeing a director, department chairs, faculty and staff that support the existing and new academic and competency based coursework, academic and online operations, field placements, field coaching, assessment, and accreditation. This includes leading the expansion of the Undergraduate Educator Preparation unit to grow program offerings and the supporting organizational structure; tracking trends and changes in the field of education, and responding accordingly by planning and evolving to meet field and student needs; building the capacity of the Education leadership team; developing innovative competency based curriculum; integrating technology systems; seeking outside funding for innovation/expansion; creating/improving processes and systems that are scalable across modalities to support significant enrollment growth and ensure budgetary efficiency; and, developing and managing budgets for the Undergraduate Educator Preparation unit, creating and implementing action plans that align to the NLU strategic plan, leading special initiatives, and completing other responsibilities, as assigned.
    • Representing NLU’s Undergraduate Educator Preparation unit, build and deepen key relationships with external stakeholders in Illinois and nationally to advance NLU interests, connect to funding opportunities, and incorporate best practices into NLU’s work.
    • Lead the continuous improvement and alignment of an assessment system that meets the requirements of accrediting and licensing agencies. Assures the effective collection, analysis, and use of data to inform and document program and initiate (drive) performance improvement efforts. This includes assessment and re-accreditation processes to ensure CAEP accreditation, SPA and other national recognition, and compliance with relevant federal, state and local regulatory requirements and policies.
    • Further develop the undergraduate educator preparation's unique field coaching model using the Adaptive Cycles of Teaching as a platform to innovate and expand coaching to transform educational practices for emerging educators inside and outside the state. As part of this work, explore the viability of technologies used to prepare educator candidates in both virtual and face-to-face environments. 
    • Strengthen collaboration with NLU’s National College of Education (NCE) to align operations, procedures and communication; leverage funding and partners across colleges to support NLU enrollment growth, student success, and career opportunities for students; and, maintain accreditation and licensure standards.
    • Collaborate with NLU’s Career Bridge to strategically embed career coursework and preparation into the education curriculum and create co-curricular opportunities to better prepare students for jobs and increase employment outcomes.
    • Resolve faculty and student conflicts, complaints, and disciplinary issues based upon current college level and university level policies and procedures

    Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education required, Doctorate Degree preferred, in Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education.
    • PEL (awarded in State of IL) preferred
    • 7 years professional experience in higher education and/or PK-12 leadership capacity, teaching in higher education, and in a department/program chair/academic leadership role. Higher education administrative accomplishments supported by evidence of operational metric improvements and experience leading large teams to drive educational outcomes for diverse learners.
    • Experience with College level and discipline-specific accreditation, measurement and assessment, as well as significant leadership experiences in educational settings
    • Experience in strategic and innovative program design, and delivery of instruction in blended and online modalities.
    • Advanced proficiency in the integration and utilization of technology and data systems for operational and instructional purposes.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills; capable of effectively and professionally communicating with a variety of audiences including students, faculty, advisors and upper management.
    • This is a concurrent faculty appointment.  Content area expertise in early childhood, elementary education and/or middle grades required.
