Description:The Vice President and Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Notre Dame is responsible for all students enrolled in the Graduate School and for the administration of the Graduate School, its programs, and courses of study. We seek an experienced academic leader to take on this role and pilot Notre Dame's ascent into the ranks of the universities with the very best graduate programs in the world. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, research and service, and be eligible for appointment as full professor.

The Graduate School includes more than 2,600 students across five colleges and schools - the Colleges of Arts & Letters, Science, and Engineering, as well as the Keough School of Global Affairs and the Mendoza School of Business. Approximately one-third of its students come from outside the United States, representing more than 95 different countries. In FY 2022, the Graduate School awarded 285 PhDs and 531 master's degrees.

Notre Dame's Graduate School has benefitted from a decade-long focused investment in graduate education and research - an investment that continues today. External research awards to Notre Dame in FY 2022 totaled $244 million, up more than 140% over the last ten years, and the number of graduate degrees has also grown substantially. The trajectory of Notre Dame's graduate studies and research programs has been, by any metric, relentlessly upward, reflecting the university's determination to be both an academic institution of the very highest rank and a place where our Catholic identity informs all that we do. The Vice President and Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate School partners with Notre Dame's Advancement Office in advancing graduate education.

As both Vice President and Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School, the holder of this position serves on a number of high-level, policy-setting bodies, including the President's Leadership Council, the Provost's Cabinet, and the Deans' Council. These assignments ensure that the interests of graduate education are always well-represented in the university's agenda, and the holder of this office, as an advocate for graduate students and graduate studies, will have the opportunity to lead the formulation and execution of that agenda as it pertains to graduate study. The holder of this position is responsible for additional duties as the Provost may assign.

As Dean of the Graduate School, the holder of this position provides leadership within the Graduate School and works with the other colleges and schools in support of the university's graduate programs. The services provided by the Graduate School include recruitment and admissions processing, academic policy administration and record processing, professional development, data services, and financial processing. The Graduate School also serves as the administrative hub for Notre Dame's post-doc community.
