  • Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for the institution’s participation in federal, state and private student aid programs including program participation and compliance requirements, audit and reporting requirements, and direct liaison with federal and state agencies on policy interpretations, compliance disputes, etc.
    • Management of the Financial Aid office, provides leadership in the administering and oversight of financial aid programs.
    • Manage the financial aid awarding process for the financial aid office including setting and monitoring deadlines, establishing workflows, assigning staff tasks and overseeing daily operations.
    • Responsible for the development, management and production of the financial aid policies and procedures manual and other financial aid publications.
    • Supervise the Financial Aid Advisors, Work Study Coordinator and support staff including student employees in the daily carrying out of their duties.
    • Assume primary responsibility for all financial aid software systems including liaison with the federal and state government, NELA and other lenders on software issues.
    • Act as primary training officer for financial aid staff.
    • Serve as first line contact for all appeals and requests for additional funds.
    • Monitoring compliance with all aspects of federal, state and institutional regulations/guidelines.
    • Complete monthly and quarterly reconciliations, FISAP, IPEDS, BPPE & Unit Record and other government reports.
    • Develop and manage the financial aid office operations budget.
    • Develop annual student financial aid (i.e. University Scholarships) budgets and awarding.
    • Provide financial aid information and presentations at Enrollment Services events.
    • Develop and conduct required federal student loan exit interviews.
    • Ensure services delivered in affective and timely manner.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be an experienced financial aid professional with high-level knowledge of federal and state student financial aid regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Must be able to translate law and regulations into office policies and procedures.
    • Must have substantial prior experience at supervisory level in a complex financial aid operation.
    • Must have had responsibilities for federal and state reporting, must have responded to financial aid program reviews and audits.
    • Must know federal student aid software and have a firm grasp of PC based financial aid software.


    Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong leadership skills in communication, coaching, and training with the ability to effectively delegate and manage department task during peak processing times.
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities and assignments.
    • Mature judgment and excellent interpersonal skills. The position also requires strong analytical skills and a high level of experience and comfort with PC based financial aid systems.
    • Must be able to do presentation and represent the University in a number of forums.


    Experience:

    • A minimum of 5 years experience in financial aid with at least 2 years at the assistant director or head counselor level.
    • Must have had responsibilities for policy formulation as well as operations.
    • Must be completely familiar with all of the major responsibilities of a complex financial aid office.


    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree a minimum - Advanced degree or additional experience preferred. Current state of financial aid knowledge must be demonstrated by regular attendance at a substantial number of the training sessions and seminars sponsored by the department of education.
