The Financial Aid Counselor is expected to support the implementation of the institution’s financial aid strategy by packaging institutional, state and federal funds for new and returning students while maintaining federal compliance, guidance and best practices.
Duties include, but are not limited to, all aspects of student financial aid packaging, oversight of ISIR processing, receive and answer questions related to financial aid from students, parents, staff, high school counselors, other college personnel and off-campus agencies and maintain the process for verification of student records in accordance with federal student records guidelines. This position will strictly honor the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures The Financial Aid Counselor will attend meetings to provide insight on students who may be struggling financially. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
Minimal qualifications include proficiency with Microsoft Office products and Outlook email. In addition, the successful candidate will be courteous and professional with their customer service skills and will have exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Additionally the ability to navigate institutional technology is expected.
Experience would include two or more years of financial aid experience at an institution of higher education or equivalent experience. Strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles required.
A bachelor’s degree is required in math, business, accounting, finance, or similar field of study.
Alternative work schedule may include an occasional evenings or weekends.
