Description
The Associate Director, Medical Science Liaison is a seasoned field-based healthcare professional with clinical, scientific and therapeutic area expertise who has multiple years of experience as an MSL or similar role and as a leader of teams. This leader plays an important role in facilitating support of customers in the field, serving to direct the activities and priorities for the MSL teams, providing coaching for team leads and driving success for established goals and priorities for the organization.
The Associate Director, Medical Science Liaison provides prioritization, strategic direction and alignment among the leaders of the Medical Science Liaison teams. The Associate Director collaborates proactively with stakeholders across the organization to ensure timely engagement, disciplined investment of time and resources, and clear communication of the MSL team activities and focus. The Associate Director works closely with Global Medical Affairs, Marketing & Market Access, Field Medical Director and Medical Advisor stakeholders to drive success for the team.
Primary Duties

Direct the activities of the MSL leads, provide mentoring and direction, including co-travel in the field and support of team member development, and coaching for desired behaviors

Create an environment where empowered teams drive communication and collaboration on medical plans, aligned with bioMerieux cultural beliefs.

Collaborate with Associate Director, Medical Advisor, and Field Medical Directors to ensure alignment and urgent response to changing organizational priorities

Oversee and communicate team metrics, monitor industry trends, research, and competitors to help refine the company's medical strategy aligned with organizational priorities, and communicate resource needs

Keep up-to-date with scientific and medical knowledge in the areas of interest for the company

Provide feedback and support for improved education of physicians and laboratorians- demonstrate delivery of medical and scientific messages in a fair and balanced manner, including reactive off-label responses, on the clinical pathways for diseases, and the application of bioMerieux products in the risk assessment/diagnostic process.

Oversee the development, implementation and follow through of Area Medical Engagement Strategic Plans to support bioMerieux medical product strategy.

Communicate market insights with US Medical Affairs leadership.

Coach team members on best practices for responding to Unsolicited Requests for Medical Information including off-label scientific evidence associated with supported products and disease state areas using evidenced-based research presented in a fair and balanced manner and in accordance with applicable regulations, guidelines and bioMerieux policies, procedures, and practices.

Participate in the development of departmental policies and procedures. Provide guidance to educate team members and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

Oversee regular audits of team member activities (Scientific exchange, advisory boards, congress participation) to ensure proficiency and alignment with policies and procedures.
Training and Education

Bachelor’s required
-
Advanced Health Science degree (eg., MD, PhD, PharmD, NP, PA) with significant clinical experience in a relevant field (eg, critical care, infectious disease) preferred

Current licensed practitioner in state of residence preferred
Experience

Minimum of 3 years of continuous, significant clinical experience

Minimum of 3 years of direct people leadership experience

Excellent knowledge of hospital/clinical/medical issues and clinical practices related to patient care. Specific regional healthcare system knowledge and relationships preferred.

Demonstrated experience in translating value of laboratory innovation into clinical application. Experience with Pharma/IVD industry preferred

Experience with IVD products and/or clinical lab environment is highly desirable

Up to 5 years of experience as an MSL or related role preferred

Approx. 40% domestic travel/ 5% international travel
