We are looking for a full-time  Pastor who can lead us in our journey to complete our mission to share the joy and good news of Jesus Christ with our congregation, visitors, and the community at large.  One of our greatest strengths is our willingness to change with the times while still fulfilling God’s will for his people.

To the pastor called to serve us, we offer a minimum compensation of $84,744 including a housing allowance, extensive benefits including a retirement plan, death and disability plans, paid medical, 30 days paid vacation, 14 days continuing education, moving expenses, maternity, and paternity leave.

Duties:

• Lead us in reverent worship with inspiring sermons and perform baptisms, marriages, funerals, and communion as required
• Enjoy the shared fellowship among churchgoers and counsel them or refer them to professionals if needed
• Visit the sick and elderly
• Develop a rapport with our children and grow our vital Christian education program
• Help support our diverse congregational population: young, old, business owners, blue collar, different races, nationalities, sexual orientations

Requirements:

• Open-minded theology
• Compassionate with good communication skills
• Leadership ability to lead the governing Session and our deacons
• Develop relationships with the congregants, the local community, the Presbytery of Long Island, and the Presbyterian Church USA
• Able to get people to collaborate and work together fostering open dialogue
• Act as a change agent as the world changes and the church must follow suit.

The First Presbyterian Church of Long Island was founded in 1870 and in 1911 we moved into our current building. Community-wise, we are a church located in the heart of Port Jefferson – a tight-knit, historic town on the Long Island Sound containing several other churches of various faiths, good restaurants, and many local shops. The local culturally-diverse population covers all, from young to old, blue-collar workers, business owners, and professionals. There is also a homeless population. New local housing within walking distance of our church is being developed.
