The Research Scientist will facilitate and coordinate the development and implementation of a program of research and evidence-based practice in collaboration with Billings Clinic health care staff and disciplines and with professionals and scientists from academic institutions and research organizations. This person will be recognized as a professional role model and will promote a professional environment that supports continuous learning, positively impacts clinical and healthcare outcomes and interdisciplinary collaborative activities. This person will be expected to seek grant funding and grant opportunities to support research activities. This person will educate the staff about the use of evidence-based practice and research.
Essential Job Functions
• Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.Utilizes philosophical, theoretical, and conceptual foundations to guide Billings Clinic health care professionals in the discovery of new knowledge in health care.
• Conducts theory-guided quantitative and qualitative research to test and generate new knowledge, and to educate members of the health care team.
• Develops and maintains appropriate records, information databases and other related information necessary to conduct analyses, produce statistical findings/results, and prepare a variety of reports on research results that are credible and reproducible. Evaluates and analyzes data to establish relevance to the problem or problems being evaluated.
• Prepares, oversees, and presents posters, power point presentations, and manuscripts to disseminate work locally, regionally, and nationally.
• In collaboration with senior and physician leadership, medical staff, and other health care professionals, leads, develops, and devises research and quality initiatives which align with Billings Clinic strategic goals to improve health services and clinical outcomes and quality and patient safety locally, regionally, and nationally. Oversees all phases of the research process. Acts as a recognized research and evidence-based practice expert throughout the Billings Clinic healthcare system.
• Seeks grant funding to support research activities. Coordinates grant/federal appropriations development/management efforts. This includes researching potential granting entities, trusts, foundations, businesses, and government entities to identify prospects for submittal of written grant/funding requests.
• Engages with other academic and healthcare institutions as an active collaborator of research endeavors.
• Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
• Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
• Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
• Incorporate population specific needs into all aspects of communication and patient care; scope of services provided will encompass age groups from infant through geriatric

• Serves as a resource for patient/resident care. Accountable to provide clinically sound information. Must develop and maintain good working relationships with other departments, physicians, patients/residents, families, outside agencies, and other professionals.
• The nature of outputs generated by this position has far reaching impacts that affect the current and future quality of care provided at Billings Clinic. Therefore, the accuracy and integrity of the information is critical.
• Completes assignments of a broad nature while exercising considerable independent judgment and originality.
• This position interacts primarily with management and nursing personnel and is viewed as a position that should bring significant value to Billings Clinic by proactively bringing solutions and recommendations to the organization
Minimum Qualifications
Education
• PhD in a health-related field, nursing preferred
Experience
• Experience as the Principal Investigator of at least one clinical research protocol in which the candidate carried the study from concept through dissemination
Certifications and Licenses
• CITI Training preferred
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.
