    Title: Assistant Professor of Accounting   (Non-Tenure Track)

    Division: School of Business and Communication

    II.       Position Summary

    The School of Business and Communication seeks an innovative and transformational faculty member who is passionate about accounting education, dedicated to scholarly research, and committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment. The responsibilities of this position comprise of teaching both undergraduate and graduate level courses in all School of Business and Communication programs. This faculty member is expected to participate actively in curriculum development and assessment, to advise students, serve on university and area committees, perform all duties professionally and ethically, and support the policies and mission of the University. In addition, the faculty member is required to contribute and produce scholarship and continue professional development as a faculty member.

     

    III.      Reports to:

    Direct Report to: Dean of the School of Business and Communication.

    IV.      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Teach the required work load credits per semester in the Graduate or undergraduate programs
    • Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate-level courses in accounting, ensuring high-quality instruction and innovative pedagogical approaches
    • Contribute to the development and enhancement of the accounting curriculum, incorporating emerging trends and technologies 
    • Actively participate in school and university related activities and committees, the accreditation process, curriculum development, and scholarship (teaching, grant writing, research, publishing, and community service)
    • Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students, guiding them in their academic and career pursuits 
    • Engage in scholarship in the field of accounting
    • Establish and maintain partnerships with professional organizations, businesses, and the broader community to enhance the university’s visibility and impact 
    • Remain current in the latest industry practices, standards, equipment, research, technology, and developments in the field of accounting
    • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching effectiveness and research productivity

    VI.      Education and Experience

     

    Minimum 

    • A certified public accountant with a doctorate in accounting or related field from a regionally accredited or recognized institution is required
    • Teaching and research interest in accounting, business administration, or closely related fields

    Preferred 

    • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level and commitment to continuous improvement in teaching, mentoring, and working with undergraduate and graduate students
    • Engagement with professional accounting communities
    • Demonstrated professional experience in industry

    VII.     Required Knowledge and Skills

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the university
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students and community members of diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google or related software
    • Highly organized with strong personal management skills in order to meet the needs of a dynamic environment

    VIII.    Physical Requirements        

    Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills.  Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

    IX.      Other Requirements

    • This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required.  Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule
    • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required
    • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
