Architecture and Design Manager

  • Lead, direct and manage the assigned staff to deliver construction and shop drawings from design drawings and schematic concepts for designated projects; Assist in development of technical input, support and working with customers, architects and staff; Coordinate with outside engineering and other resource providers while conducting yourself in a manner consistent with KHS&S core ideology.


    The essential duties and responsibilities of the Architecture and Design Manager consist of, but are not limited to, the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:

    1. Personnel:

    • Recruit, as necessary, oversee or conduct the training, supervise, and review assigned staff of the Construction Design Department in assigned area office.
    • Develop the staff’s knowledge of construction materials, processes and documentation in conjunction with the Director, Construction Design.

    2. Operations:

    • Assign project teams based on skills and priorities.
    • Create and maintain overall department schedules in assigned area office.
    • Assist staff with the development of schedules for the architectural and engineering activities of the project and work with project team to ensure the schedule supports construction.
    • Meet with General Contractors, Architects and Engineers, Owners and others to coordinate the design process, as required, and approval of drawings.
    • Coordinate and communicate progress with project teams. Ensure that drawing deadlines and budgets are being met and that capabilities are in place to achieve project drawing requirements.
    • Direct and coordinate structural engineering consultants.
    • Personally prepare drawings, schedules, submittals and corrections, as required.
    • Estimate and bid CD work for prospective projects. Provide detailed proposals, inclusions, exclusions and qualifications, as required. Work with area CD personnel to ensure buy-in to process, scope and budgeting.
    • Oversee CD project kick-off and strategy meetings.
    • Review and redline drawings for correction prior to release.
    • Develop and maintain KHS&S Standards manual and associated processes.

    3. Other Duties:

    • Assess and implement new technology, software and equipment to increase department capabilities and efficiency.

    Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering, related field or more than 10 years’ experience.

    Experience: Required a minimum of 5 years related experience within the commercial light gauge framing and drywall industry or related field in a Job Captain/Project Lead role.

    Skills: Proven leadership and strategic planning skills. Ability to read, interpret, and translate architectural, structural, MEP, and vendor shop drawings. Extensive knowledge of architectural and construction details, means & methods, and building codes. Able to devise creative solutions for software and construction issues. Able to conceptualize in 3D. High attention to detail, aptitude for learning new things and must be able to work under pressure.

    Physical: Includes sitting, standing, reaching, walking; use of hands, arms, legs, and feet. Must be able to see and hear (with mechanical assistance if necessary) sufficient to understand and comprehend individual one-on-one conversations.

    Communication: Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to communicate effectively and positively with customers and employees.

    Computer: Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Mastery of Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks. and Bluebeam. Ability to train others on these programs.
