    Primary Purpose of Position
    North Carolina A&T State University's Department of Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Assistant Professor position in Civil Engineering to begin in Fall 2024. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in Civil Engineering or a related field at the time of appointment. Open to all areas in civil engineering, we are specifically seeking candidates with research and teaching interests related to construction materials such as asphalt, concrete, masonry, steel, brick, etc. The desired candidate would be able to develop innovative experimental and computational methods aimed at bolstering infrastructure resilience and sustainability under the evolving climate and engage and educate students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Individuals with the ability to conduct multidisciplinary research, through their own endeavors as well as through collaborations within and outside the department, are particularly encouraged to apply Successful candidates will be expected to share in our mission to address the challenges of creating a sustainable global society by educating the next generation of HBCU engineers and leaders.

    The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, building and sustaining an externally funded independent research program, student advising, mentoring and recruitment; curriculum development, scholarly activities, and a productive academic career. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation processes and program assessment; and service activities.
    Primary Function of Organizational Unit
    The College of Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University invites applications and nominations for this key leadership position. North Carolina A&T State University is a public land grant university that enrolls 13,487 students.

    The College of Engineering, with 2,393 students, has EAC ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bioengineering, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET-accredited program in Computer Science.     The Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering provides academic preparation for students studying for BS degrees in Architectural Engineering, BS degrees in Civil Engineering, and MS degrees in Civil Engineering. The CAEE department is partnering with the Department of Computational Data Science and Engineering for a PhD in Computational Data Science and Engineering with a track in Civil Engineering.
    Minimum Requirements
    - The successful candidate must have earned a PhD or equivalent degree in Civil Engineering or a related field at the time of appointment.
    - A strong background in Civil Engineering, in particular Construction Materials
    - A passion for teaching, learning, and developing students
    - Excellent oral and written communication skills,
    - Demonstrate the potential to establish an independent, externally funded research program, to publish peer-reviewed scholarly papers in the academic discipline,
    - Collaborate with researchers across disciplines that are represented in the Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering Department and related fields.
    - Be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering;
    - Demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting and enhancing inclusiveness, collaboration and diversity in alignment with the University's commitment to maintaining and enhancing a diverse environment.
    Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
    - Demonstrated ability and experiences in teaching and research are highly desirable. Candidate is able to work well with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and external constituencies; and has a commitment to diversity, collegiality, and shared governance.
    - Attended an ABET accredited undergraduate institution
    - Able to pursue Professional engineering (PE) licensure in the U.S.
    - Demonstrable experience in teaching/research/professional work in the area of civil engineering
