The University of Kentucky College of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor, tenured track, in the Department of Physiology. This appointment will be a joint appointment with the Division of Biomedical Informatics in the Department of Internal Medicine. The preferred candidate will develop a basic research program with an experimental laboratory in which generation of data lends itself to advanced informatic analysis. For example, development of bioinformatics or computational biology to better understand human disease, working towards personalized and translational medicine. Given this area of emphasis and the interaction of a basic and clinical departments, candidates that can bridge these disciplines will be favored. The Department of Physiology is highly ranked in the Blue Ridge Institute metrics and is a multidisciplinary unit of highly productive faculty. The faculty have substantial extramural funds to support their research and are engaged in significant teaching efforts for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Our research is enhanced by a highly collaborative environment with multiple Colleges. UK is one of only a handful of academic medical centers in the nation that have all health profession schools on one campus: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Sciences. In addition, the department is well positioned to undergo substantial thematic growth under new leadership. The Division of Biomedical Informatics is a unique department with a multidisciplinary faculty positioned for opportunities for interdisciplinary cross-talk and collaboration. The Biomedical Informatics Division is housed within the Department of Internal Medicine/College of Medicine and is embarking on a period of major expansion within the University. Efforts focused on the Biomedical Informatics expansion will create direction for the academic entity and stimulate research across the campus, building relationships and infrastructure for the success of this program.
