    Position Overview: We are seeking an innovative and enthusiastic drama teacher to join our performing arts team. This role involves designing age-appropriate curriculum, organizing productions, and providing engaging instruction that cultivates students’ appreciation for drama and performance. 

     

    Key Responsibilities:

     

    Curriculum Development

    • Develop a structured and progressive drama curriculum tailored to the needs and interests of elementary students.
    • Design lesson plans that incorporate various theatrical techniques, including improvisation, character development, storytelling, and stagecraft.
    • Ensure alignment with educational standards while promoting creative expression and exploration.

    Instructional Delivery:

    • Facilitate dynamic and interactive drama classes that engage students and encourage active participation.
    • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and expressing themselves.
    • Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their acting skills and confidence.

    Production Coordination:

    • Organize and oversee school productions, including selecting scripts, casting roles, and coordinating rehearsals.
    • Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and volunteers to manage logistics such as set design, costumes, props, and technical aspects of performances.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during rehearsals and performances.

    Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

    • Assess students' performance and comprehension through observation, projects, and performances.
    • Maintain records of student progress and communicate with parents or guardians regarding their child's development in drama class.
    • Implement strategies to support students who may require additional assistance or enrichment.

    Professional Development and Collaboration:

    • Stay current with developments in drama education, instructional strategies, and technology tools relevant to the field.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate drama into interdisciplinary projects and school-wide events.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
    • Participate in a professional learning community and facilitate school-initiatives geared toward ensuring that all students learn at high levels. 

    Qualifications:

    • Teaching certification or licensure.
    • Bachelor's degree in Drama, Theatre Education, Performing Arts, or related field.
    • Previous experience working with elementary-aged students in a teaching or coaching capacity.
    • Strong understanding of child development principles and pedagogical approaches appropriate for elementary education.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.
    • Creative mindset with a passion for fostering artistic expression and confidence in young learners.
    • Organizational skills and attention to detail for managing productions and curriculum development.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students and accommodate varying learning styles.
