    The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty appointment in English Composition. Appointment begins August 14, 2024.

    Full-time faculty at UNM-Los Alamos are required to teach, engage in service, and engage in professional development activities in accordance with the established workload policies. The teaching load will regularly be comprised of courses in English, such as Composition I and II, Professional and Technical Writing, and/or Business Communication or Communications. Opportunities exist for reassigned time in accordance with the needs of the campus. Faculty may have the opportunity to develop courses in the faculty member's specific areas of expertise and interest. Full-time faculty members teach assigned day, evening, and weekend classes, in various modalities, in accordance with established guidelines and policies, as well as participate in student advising, participate in faculty governance committees, other academic and institutional support activities, and supervisory responsibilities as assigned.

    All faculty members are expected to remain current in teaching best practices and transformational pedagogy, and to adhere to accepted standards for professionals in education. Additional responsibilities may include possible supervision of internships, participating in curriculum development, training and mentoring adjunct faculty, attending forums and meetings, participating in initiatives related to undergraduate research, grant-writing, and serving on additional department and college committees and boards as requested. Final offer is contingent upon the applicant residing in Northern New Mexico and having the ability to be on campus in Los Alamos at least three times per week.

    Starting salary is commensurate with degrees and experience. Base salary for 1.0 FTE is $47,000-$53,316 for a 9-month faculty position, depending on qualifications. Summer teaching may be possible and optional with additional compensation. An excellent package of benefits is provided (see: ).

    Qualifications

    Minimum requirements:

    * Master's Degree in English Composition, or in English Literature with at least 18 graduate credit hours in composition or related degree and experience with at least 18 graduate credit hours in composition;

    * Teaching experience.

    * Eligible to work in the U.S

    Preferred Qualifications:

    * PhD in English Composition/Rhetoric;

    * Experience with teaching online/ web-enhanced courses as well as demonstrated experience using best practices in course design (such as Quality Matters standards) for both online and in-person instruction;

    * Demonstrated understanding of the scholarship, theory, and practice of teaching and learning (pedagogy), inclusive practices, multicultural theories, and High Impact Practices (HIPs) for underserved populations;

    * Demonstrated success in working in settings with multilingual students and students from diverse backgrounds and literacy practices;

    * A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities; also, a commitment to improving access to, and retention in, higher education for students from communities traditionally underserved in higher education;

    * Qualifying graduate work in the field of Communications (e.g. Public Speaking).
