    Position Summary:
    The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse student population. Faculty members are responsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistent with the philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College and (if applicable, accreditation, licensure, and specialty requirements) in accordance with the needs of the department. 

    Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences from qualified applicants. Responsibilities will include developing and teaching foundational undergraduate courses in Environmental Sciences, including introductory level and advanced courses. The successful candidate will be comfortable offering hands-on laboratory courses using a variety of instruments, software, and tools. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for the relevant technical field(s) and will be able to share their excitement with a diverse student body through inclusive teaching. They will demonstrate their commitment to improving their capacity to mentor and support students by participating in professional meetings. They will demonstrate a solid understanding of the role of a community college in workforce development and will also demonstrate a strong commitment to shared governance, collaboration, and professional development. This position will assist the department in tracking and identifying industry/employer needs and will develop relevant courses and teaching strategies for students with diverse interests and learning styles to support student recruitment and retention.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Teach a full-time load of courses in environmental sciences, involving preparation of course materials and assessments;
    • Assist the Science department in expanding its focus on climate change and sustainability;
    • Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences;
    • Conduct laboratory instruction conforming to best practices, including those for safety;
    • Apply student-centered educational practices that provide a diverse array of learning activities directly tied to defined outcomes, use assessment data to improve instruction and learning, and participate in ongoing department and College-wide dialogues about teaching and learning;
    • Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course/program requirements, and student learning outcomes to meet graduation competencies as appropriate;
    • Serve as academic advisor to students;
    • Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;
    • Serve on College committees as elected or appointed;
    • Participate in Program, Department, Division, Faculty, and Committee meetings;
    • Assist in selecting and recommending suitable instructional materials and textbooks;
    • Participate in the improvement and development of academic programs and resources in consultation with the academic Dean(s);
    • Use technology effectively to communicate and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
    • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning;
    • Adhere to College policies and deadlines for the timely submission of course grades and attendance rosters;
    • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
