    Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications

    Overview
    Northern Illinois University (NIU) is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University-Higher Research Activity located in DeKalb, IL. DeKalb is a diverse and growing community providing residents with a small-town feel and the benefits of a large university. The Audiology program is part of the interdisciplinary School of Allied Health and Communicative Disorders and offers an undergraduate Communicative Disorders major, Doctor of Audiology, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and a Master's in Speech-Language Pathology. Faculty in Audiology, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology collaborate in clinical and research endeavors. The prospective candidate will work with a diverse student and clinic population and enjoy a comfortable work/life balance. Excellent off-campus sites are available for practicum, research, and grant development. The school includes a 27,000 sq. ft. multidisciplinary clinic space which houses the Speech-Language-Hearing and Physical Therapy Clinics.     We are inviting applications for a full-time, nine-month, promotable faculty position subject to institutional funding at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Audiology program. This is a tenure-track, nine-month position with opportunities to teach during the summer term(s). Faculty rank is dependent on experience, qualifications, and Board policies.

    Position Summary
    The Assistant Professor is responsible for all aspects of classroom instruction to graduate and/or undergraduate students, contributing to scholarly endeavors, and serving on committees within the university and/or professional organizations.

    The Assistant Professor will positively contribute to committee service within the program, university, community, and profession, provide student advisement to graduate students and undergraduate students, as appropriate, and participate in research projects.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Teach academic coursework and make connections to evidence based clinical practice to AuD students and other students as appropriate;
    • Establish an active and innovative research/scholarly agenda that directly engages local, national, and international audiology research communities through research publications, presentations, and grants
    • Positively contribute to service within the university (program, school, college, university levels) and profession;
    • Provide student advisement and support student research;
    • Contribute to curriculum development and program advancement.
    • Collaborate within the campus and community to promote the advancement of the program and the mission of the University.

    Minimum Required Qualifications
    • Earned PhD in Audiology or related field (e.g., Hearing Science, Auditory Neuroscience, Allied Health, etc.,) with expertise in Audiology by the time of hire;
    • Research focus in acoustics and amplification, or specialty area that complements existing faculty expertise to ensure depth and breadth across the scope of practice as required by the Council of Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology;
    • Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusive work and learning environments that foster diversity, creativity, and innovation.

    • Ability and willingness to contribute to meeting the program's instructional needs;
    • Strong oral, written, visual, and electronic communication skills;
    • Ability to communicate effectively and interact in a positive manner with diverse faculty, staff, patients, students, and clinicians as well as with people of varying economic and cultural backgrounds;
    • Effective interpersonal and conflict management skills;
    • Ability to educate graduate students in clinical, laboratory, and classroom settings;
    • Strong organization, problem-solving, and counseling skills;
    • Demonstrated knowledge in evidence-based practice;
    • Contribute to promoting a collegial environment in which faculty support each other and their students;
    • Ability to adhere to program's immunization policies.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in:
      • Effective teaching in higher education, specifically in an audiology program;
      • Strong scholarly record;
      • Current CCC-A,
      • Active and unrestricted IL licensure in Audiology by time of hire;
    • History of engagement and service to the profession at the local, state, and/or national level.
    • Preference will be given to candidates with a record of professional service, research, and experience developing grants for programming.
