Job Summary/Basic FunctionAdvisors in the College of Liberal Arts work with students and faculty in the following departments: Art, English, Foreign Languages, Global Studies, History, Music, Organizational Communication, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology & Anthropology, and Theatre & Dance. The College of Liberal Arts has an established advising office with high professional standards and a reputation for excellence. Our advisors are student centered, clear communicators, team players, advocates for the Liberal Arts, and capable of working effectively with staff and faculty to serve the needs of our students. Advisors work with students from the point of matriculation to graduation. Their primary role is to provide educational guidance and assistance for students by planning schedules, recommending courses and determining appropriate solutions for academic problems. Advisors are responsible for the retention of the students assigned to them and have regular contact with the students to ensure they are aware of available interventions and stay on track for graduation. They are responsible for maintaining accurate student records using internal student tracking software to support the University retention strategies and evaluate student progress and satisfaction. Advisors perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned.
Required Education
Master's degree (a Liberal Arts discipline is preferred).
Note: A Bachelor's degree (Liberal Arts discipline preferred) plus three (3) years of directly related progressively responsible experience may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree.
No experience required with a Master's degree
Desirable Related ExperienceTwo (2) years' progressively responsible experience working with college students or young adults in an advising or career services counseling area in a college or university setting preferred.
