    Position Summary
    The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

    The Department of Physical Therapy at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a 9-month tenure track position at the assistant professor level. Primary teaching responsibilities include instruction of entry-level DPT students with the ability to lead the anatomy course series. Additional responsibilities will include secondary teaching in other courses that match the candidate's qualifications and departmental needs, institutional service, advising, and scholarly activity consistent with accreditation standards and the mission and philosophy of the Department of Physical Therapy. Candidates must have earned either a clinical doctorate or an academic doctorate and must have advanced training in human donor dissection and lab maintenance. Candidates with less than one year to completion of an academic doctorate will be considered.

    The WCU physical therapy program holds inclusive excellence as a core value, and we work together to foster a welcoming community, where all are respected and know they belong. The program enjoys a highly dynamic, positive work/learning environment with extensive support for faculty development and excellent opportunities for collaborative teaching, service, and research. Salary and rank are commensurate with academic qualifications and experience.

    The program has learners in both Asheville and Cullowhee with custom designed laboratories and excellent instructional technology resources that support synchronous audio-video delivery between locations. The human donor lab is housed in the Health and Human Sciences Building in Cullowhee where gross anatomy instruction takes place. The program has two Anatomage tables to supplement instruction, one for each location. The Biltmore Park instructional site is in Asheville, 50 miles away from Cullowhee, and houses several graduate programs including physical therapy, nursing, and social work.     Minimum Qualifications
    Education
    • Clinical (DPT) or academic (PhD, EdD, DHSc, DSc, or ScD) doctorate degree from an accredited institution. ABD candidates with expected completion of doctorate by June 2025 will also be considered.
    • Certification or advanced training in operation and maintenance of a gross human anatomy laboratory
    Teaching
    • Contemporary expertise in human anatomy and ability to lead the anatomy course series
    Scholarship
    • Record of scholarship and/or a clear plan for a future scholarly agenda
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Academic doctorate degree
    • PT degree with eligibility for PT license in the state of North Carolina
    • Commitment to community engagement through teaching, service, and scholarship
    • Prior teaching experience in a physical therapy education program with evidence of strong teaching skills, use of instructional technology, and commitment to learner success
